I really doubt the Marlins do that. They are supposedly asking for Robles and Kieboom already, two likely top 50 guys, and the Nationals are balking, and I don't see how the Cubs can cover the prospect difference to justify it.

In other news, the Yanks traded Tyler Austin for Lance Lynn and the Red Sox got Ian Kinsler.

 

Kinsler and Pedroia don't get along, from their year together at ASU. This could be fun.

 

Wasn't it more Kinsler not liking Pedroia for taking his position than anything, or is there something else I'm forgetting?

I like the idea that the starter market is expensive, we already made a move and we hope that we can get at least 2-3 guys pitching well by the end of the season. So the next logical move is to stack the pen with guys and turn any playoff games into a bullpen fest.

 

Just using Ziegler as a placeholder here but if we acquire that pitcher we'd have

 

Morrow

Strop

Edwards

Cishek

Chavez

Ziegler

Montgomery

Rosario

Wilson

 

Lester/Hendricks/Quintana/Darvish as starters (in an ideal world)

 

That is a pen you can feel good about asking to pitch 4-5 innings a game. That pen is so stacked you have to debate dropping Rosario or Wilson in favor of Hamels if he is pitching well.

The idea would be Jeets and the fellas overvalue Almora like a good chunk of the fan base and he’s a “local guy.” Also could be a Nats prospect along with ours (not their top tier ones).

Yeah. I'd love a better lefty on lefty guy than Rosario. though that's nitpicking (and maybe Smyly is that guy).

 

Regardless, that pen is good and deep. Joe can have a super quick hook and we shouldn't have to worry about burning them out.
