Brewers wanted to be able to say they were in on all the pitchers, but didn't want to get saddled with any big contracts.

So they gave a 32 year old CF a 5/80 contract, when their OF was their strength?

CF was not a strength. They got all of 1.3 WAR out of that position last season. This year they're projected to get 3.2 WAR, thanks to Cain. Not to say that I think it made sense to go after CF rather than a SP, but they probably thought they would be able to trade Santana for a pitcher. Once that fell apart, doubt they wanted to hand out another big contract to a pitcher.

I think the Brewers' moves will make alot more sense if Arcia remembers he can hit and Hiura moves fast through the minors. Before anyone gets on me for saying Arcia can hit please check out what he was doing at 19 and 20 in High A and AA for full seasons. He can hit, not a great hitter but there's plenty to think his physical prime will offer some strong seasons. He seems like a breakout candidate for me with the combo of the league giving everyone a power boost and playing most of the year at just 23...I also think they will have a big year down on the farm with Hiura emerging as an elite prospect and Tristan Lutz as a guy who might be in 2020.

I'm fine saying all this because the Cubs are just that good. I like that the division is earnest, it'll make it more hilarious when they lose anyway plus the future Cubs are buying their stars.

The current Brewers are the Hedge Fund Orioles. That is not a compliment, and they are not an Arcia or Hiura from being competitive.

Thom Brennaman, however, is NOT a national treasure.

Cain and Santana collided in CF tonight and apparently Santana hurt his leg. Cain was already banged up and not moving great either.

Now who's laughing at Stearns for having 7 outfielders on his roster, huh?

He missed like 60 games last year in part due to a back injury. They also announced today that even though he's eligible to come off the 10-day DL tomorrow that Yelich isn't ready yet and will stay on the DL with his oblique injury.
