Good God.

I hope most of that isn't guaranteed

I bet a decent chunk will be in year one meaning it's easy to walk away from in year 2. This amount shouldn't be surprising based on the market right now, though. Be prepared for Fuller to get at least 13.5 per over 4.

What's left, a backup QB? Anything else? I figure the Edge will come thru the draft. An O-Lineman would be very nice at this point.....But, I could see them using their first two picks on those spots.

OL and LB definitely. Maybe a DL (even if its just bringing back Unrein). A depth piece at RB couldn't hurt. Maybe backup QB instead of Sanchez. Another TE if you cut Sims. And settling the Fuller issue.

OL Depth

Leno-Kush/Sowell-Whitehair-Long-Massie

Grasu-Morgan

LB Depth

Floyd-Trevanthan-Kwiakowski-Acho

Irving-Anderson-H. Jones

OK, so we went into this with 51.7 mill to spend, counting draft picks....This includes Fuller, Bellamy, Meredith, and Callahan. Although, we may need to match offer sheets, which would increase their number. Supposedly we're looking at extending Goldman and Amos too, which would increase their numbers as well.....

We can save an extra 14.5 by cutting Sims, Wheaton, and Cooper. Of which I'd say Wheaton is definitively gone and the other 2 are 50/50....

No idea on cap numbers for the guys we've signed, but if you just use an AAV on what we know....

Robinson-14

Amukamara-9

Daniel-5

Burton-8

Gabriel-?(7ish?)

Parkey-?(3ish?)

Acho-3.75

At any rate, I'm sure the way these are structured will lower the numbers a bit. But, I was kind of hoping for a nice OL addition....I kind of doubt it happens, especially if we do extensions for Goldman and Amos and have to match offers on Meredith and Callahan.

There is still plenty of talent that hasn't been cut yet by just about every team. I'm guessing all three of those guys are as good as gone. No need for Sims. Cooper was a bust and the draft is stocked with CB's. Wheaton wouldn't make the roster if they did keep him around.

I'd guess we draft an O-lineman with one of our top two picks. It's probably something like 50/50 (maybe higher?) that Nelson is there at 8. There's also a bunch of other guys that currently are slated for the end of the 1st round, and one or two of them are bound to slide to our 2nd round pick.

Nelson is my top choice. If he's not around, I'd go for Edmunds or another defensive player and wait for an O-lineman later in the draft. As an ND fan, I was never that impressed with McGlinchey.

A up to the moment state of things:

Offense (25)

QB (3): Trubisky, Daniels, __Sanchez/#3??__

RB (3.5): Howard, Cohen (1/2), __Cunningham/#3__, Mizzell

WR (6): Robinson, Meredith, Gabriel, Burton (1/2), Cohen (1/2), White, Bellamy

TE (3.5): Burton (1/2), Shaheen, Sims, Brown

OL (9): Leno, ____, Whitehair, Long, Massie, Kush, Sowell, Grasu, Morgan

Defense (25)

5T (4): Hicks, ______, Robertson-Harris, Bullard

NT (2): Goldman, _____

OLB (5): Floyd, _____, _____, Acho, Irving

ILB (4): Trevathan, Kwiatkowski, ______, _____, Anderson

CB (3): Fuller, Amukamara, ______

Slot SB (2): Callahan, LeBlanc

S (5): Jackson, Amos, Bush, Hall, Houston-Carson

Special Teams:

K: Parkey

P: O'Donnell

LS: _______

I kind of cheated with Burton/Cohen taking some WR snaps. I think that will happen. Lots of holes on defense. I've been trying to formulate who might be going QB in the draft still following FA. Teams who I think could/should draft a QB:

1/4 Browns

2 Giants

5 Broncos

6 Jets

11 Dolphins

12 Bills (hottest trade up candidate)

15 Cardinals

16 Ravens

17 Chargers

27 Saints

28 Steelers

29 Jaguars

31 Patriots

The general consensus on the QB's is (tiered):

Darnold/Rosen

Mayfield/Allen

Jackson/Rudolph

The rest

Barkley is a really interesting wrinkle, as the Browns and Giants are both rumored to be picking him #1/2. Browns could go Barkley and gamble their guy is there or trade up to 2/3 to get whomever they like (this was the rumor last year in which Pace gamed them to trade up to 49ers for Trubisky). Or they could pick their QB and if Barkley's there, he's there.

I find it unlikely that anyone will be trading up to the Bears to get a QB, as any team trading up will jump to 2/3/4/5 to get who they want.

If 1-4 QB's go in the top 5 picks, that means that Barkley/Chubb/Nelson round out the top 7, leaving the Bears just outside the elite talent. Reminds me of the Kevin White draft, in which Leonard Williams went #6 to the Jets as the last of the top tier players on the board.

I'm trying to come up with a scenario in which the bears end up with one of the elite talents at a position of need. Lots of time before then, lots can change, and I hope it does so that we can end up with a stud pick or a rock solid trade down option. It's possible someone gets despreate and trades up to get Rudolph, or Davenport/Landry, or Edmunds even. Thoughts?

I'm really feeling the parallels to the 14-15 Cubs off-season even more and I think we're going to be undersold going into this season, especially if Pace has another draft like he's shown he can.

Where that actually leaves us given the strength of our division is obviously in question though.

if Edmunds or Davenport is at #8, I think you grab him. Both fit needs and are at the top of their positions in this draft.

Seattle news is talking about who is scheduled to come visit the Seahawks (which FA) and meanwhile Pace has locked up a slew of talent. I have to hand it to him, just like Mitch and Nagy, he goes after and gets the guys who the staff/org wants

I think we're in a good spot, but not a great one. Barkley/Chubb/Nelson/Fitpatrick seems to be a pretty consensus first tier of non-QBs. If four QBs go ahead of us, which seems more likely than not, then we're guaranteed one of them. If only two or three QBs go ahead of us, then we'll likely have a good chance to trade back with Buffalo or Arizona. I'd feel way better if we had the 7th pick, but 8 should still be good.
