Cubs get him fired again

Wonder if any team will be dumb enough to hire him again (I say this days after Ron Gardenhire got a job)

Was talking with a Cards fan buddy....from a purely hypothetical standpoint, if the Cards fired Matheny to hire Dusty, and the Nats then hired Matheny, I wonder how each team would improve/decline?

Dusty turns 69 next June, I think he's done.

Yeah, unless I missed someone, Dusty is 5 years older than the next oldest manager, who is Maddon at 63. Guys just don't get hired at 70.

That sucks, I liked him in that role. Hopefully they hire somebody else just as dumb, but I wonder if Dave Martinez gets considered for this one. Edited by Bote McBoteface

man. i know maddon is an old dude but he just does not seem like the oldest manager in the league.

i guess there are a ton of young managers out there though.

Counterpoint: Maddon is barreling into old coot-dom faster than a drunk passed out behind the wheel of an out of control RV.

I've got a million of 'em! Like this: the Nats weren't going to fire Dusty until they saw how the team that beat them got so hideously spanked in the next round!

I first read that as “oldcoot.com”

I first read that as “oldcoot.com”

which surprisingly is not filled with pictures of grandma lady squares

I initially read the title as "Dusty Caned", which tells you everything you need to know about how I feel about the guy.

There's a bunch of guys just younger than Maddon, too.

It's kinda weird that no team has asked to interview Dave Martinez while he's been here. I hope it's not some known flaw or lack of skills he has that is known within MLB that keeps that from happening and teams just think he won't be a good manager, because he seems to check a lot of boxes. I hope there's an understanding that when Joe is ready to leave Martinez is taking his spot so that's why he's sticking around/nobody is bothering to interview him.

i mean at this point i think he's just a bad interview. he was making the rounds a lot 4 or 5 years ago with just about every opening, including us passing on him (want to say it was when we hired renteria and not sveum)

Yeah could be, but you'd think smarter teams would know to get over a bad interview since he "seems" to get it and has been under Maddon's wing for so long (I know Maddon gets criticism, mostly deserved but he's probably one of the better guys to learn under in terms of how to manage a team through a whole season and being open to new things like shifting, moving guys around, etc.). Just is an odd thing but whatever hopefully it's a benefit to us that he's not going anywhere.

You'd have to give me about a dozen guesses to figure out who Snitker manages
