I don't even think the 2005 Kyle Orton games were managed this conservatively. Unbelievable.

might've been worse

especially given the fact that that team at least had an NFL WR.

i still remember my exasperation at halftime of that falcons SNF game. then rex came in and immediately threw a like a 20 yard completion to moose. then we scored a TD, nevermind the fact that it was on an end zone pick that was fumbled and we picked back up.

Rex coming in at half time and hitting Moose was a top 5 sports moment for me, there was something electric about it. Weird to think in retrospect, but there was so much anticipation there.

What a weird horsefeathering game. Even given the horribly conservative play calling, thus offense is horrendous.

i just am not sure there's any way to tell (and we've mostly faced very good defenses, to at least give some modicum of contextual fairness) if it's THAT bad or if it's just a combination of bad + John Fox.

there's just no way that game wasn't going to play out that way after 2 quick defensive TDs with john fox running the show, was there? at least, as long as the defense didn't blow it.

not that i'm spiking a football or anything here but i had a pretty good feeling this was a better team than was thought nationally (at least without glennon going out of his way to do everything possible poorly). they're more in that nfl parity middle of the bell curve than they are on the browns/giants/49ers (with genius john lynch who fleeced the bears!) tier.

Maybe. I need to see more games where they win without needing balls popping right into their hands for returnable turnovers. You're gonna have good luck days and bad luck days, but winning on two very good luck days in a row probably shouldn't change our opinion of the team too much.

what kind of luck day was the falcons game?

(fwiw, i'm not changing my opinion based on two weeks. i thought that going into the season.)

On the one hand, a win is always a good thing.

On the other hand, more wins means that Fox's chances of coming back next season improve.

Choices, choices...

Um, Brett Hundley is the QB of the Packers, jackass. This division is winnable.

Knock it off with the personal attacks when you come back.

Eh, even before they started getting bounces, they were getting their hands and their balls a lot more frequently. I think we can pretty comfortably draw conclusions over 1/3 of the way through the season.

you seriously just banned him for that?

dude who is almost never around but happens to have been designated a mod like 10 years ago is pretty quick with the ban stick.

I don't remember anything particularly lucky or unlucky about that game, which they lost.

OK. My conclusion is that the defense is pretty good and the offense is pure excrement. That might be enough to sneak into the middle of the pack or it might be a top-5 pick. Depends on the bounces.

i mean, they're 3-4, their defense is showing out big time, and they've had one of the more difficult schedules in the league to open the season.

people were predicting 0-7 through this stretch and receiving very little argument.

Agreed although sulley's response was strangely aggressive for an innocent comment. Is there some sort of OO/sulley history I am forgetting?

If the Bears would have won that Vikings game (and you'll remember they had the ball with a couple minutes left in a tie game before Mitch threw the backbreaking INT) the Bears would be tied with GB and MIN (and potentially DET depending on their game) for first place at 4-3

not to me. that's just sulley.

we've all been around for almost 15 years. we all insult each other all the time. kyle's name is based off an imb insult, ffs. but OO shows up, gets called a jackass once and the ban stick comes out? ok.

or if we didn't have a concussed LB miss a call that led to the falcons TE coming wide open and scoring that TD. or the 15 attempts missed in the endzone at the end.

Well in that case they'd be 4-3 but not in 1st. I'd take that too. Either way even at 3-4 the Bears will be no worse than 1.5 games behind a WC and 2 behind the division. Not great but even being on the fringe of the fringe of the playoff discussion through 7 weeks with this schedule is somewhat incredible. That said it all goes for naught if they lose in NO next week and go into the bye 3-5. If they can get a win in the house of horrors that is the Superdome then you can start to talk playoff positioning without looking like a complete homer.
