That was an old school Bears win yesterday. The D has been pretty impressive lately despite the injuries. I am started to get excited for next season assuming we focus on improving the offense & giving Trubisky some help on that side of the ball. Hell, looking at the rest of our schedule the Bears might even have a shot at sneaking into the playoffs if 9-7 will get them in.

Story of the season so far is guys that were previously written off, performing like studs. Kyle Fuller, Adrian Amos, and Christian Jones (quietly) have all been really good this year, especially the last 3 weeks. Hell, could probably include Kyle Long in that group.

Next week should be interesting. Huge test for the surprising DB group that has been playing great football. If they can't hold the Saints down (nobody else has), then Loggains will have to unleash Trubisky in some way, shape, or form in order to compete in the game. Either way, I expect the Bears to let Trubisky do a little bit more coming out of the bye. They're going to have to at some point.

Yes. I haven’t seen all the Bears games this year. But as I watched today I was amazed by Fuller’s play. That’s the guy we drafted. I hope he keeps it going.

I brought it up last page, but since we turned down his 5th year option(rightfully so), he's a FA at the end of the year. He's playing like a legit number 1 and has been for most of the year.

Its a weird spot to be in. If he keeps this up, its going to be one of the weirdest franchise tags ever, unless we can lock him up longterm.

Which brings up another question. What do you give a guy that's doing this? I'd be wary still myself, but he does LOOK like he's legitimately turned himself into a damn good player at this point. Guess next week will tel us a bit more.

I believe his 5th year option would have been about 8.5Mil. CBs of his quality seem to get around that to 10M AAV. I'd probably 4 years/38-42Mil and guarantee about 20M of that. Assuming no bridges were burned with him not coming back from injury last year and the things Fangio said about him, then I'd think he'd take that.

i still remember my exasperation at halftime of that falcons SNF game. then rex came in and immediately threw a like a 20 yard completion to moose. then we scored a TD, nevermind the fact that it was on an end zone pick that was fumbled and we picked back up.

I was at that game, it was 7 degrees at kickoff and 3 when the game ended. My beer would turn to slush if I didn't drink it within 5 minutes.

We tailgated all day at 31st street lots and our keg literally froze mid-day. I had bundled up enough that i wasnt actually that cold except for my damn feet.

Already down pretty far with division & conference tie breakers with 2 of our 3 wins against the AFC. 9-7 probably doesn't get the Bears in the playoffs if I had to take a guess.

I am not a fan of Fox, but you have to give the defensive coaching staff credit for the development of some of these guys like Amos, Fuller, Jones, etc.

Can we fire Fox and keep Fangio? I know it can be hard to find a coach willing to have part of his staff dictated to him when he takes over, yet maybe Fangio is respected enough where that wouldn't matter?

You'd probably have to make Fangio the head coach right? Wasn't that why he left SF after Harbaugh left?

This team is going to live and die by what happens with Mitchell going forward. If and when they move on from Fox, the next coaching hire should be centered around how that person will impact Trubisky's career.

I doubt Fangio is that guy.

Wasn't he on the outs anyways. Though Gase wanted to retain him, and that's when they decided to pass on Gase, and promote the guy from under Fangio.

Anyways, I really have no qualms about losing Fangio if it means moving on from Fox. If he's still under contract you can keep him until the new HC decides to fire him, but he shouldn't be a consideration if you're making coaching staff changes.

I know it's way too early but I think the Bears are only a game out of a Wild Card spot if the season ended today. But the division/conference record could definitely hurt if it gets to a tiebreaker scenario. We still have 4 division games left - 2 against the crappy Lions, 1 against the Rodgers-less Pack, and the last week of the season against Minnesota who may have nothing to play for in that game. I know it's not likely to happen but it's nice to know that it's at least a remote possibility at this point of the season.

I'm not sure how this is possible since every division has a 2nd place team at least 1 game over .500 while the Bears are 1 game below, and they're 1-4 against other NFC teams.

Yeah it sucks that we only have 1 win against an NFC team so far. Even if we go 6-3 the rest of the season (to get to 9-7) chances are 1-2 of those wins will be against the Bengals and/or Browns. Will 5-6 conference win us any tiebreakers? Probably not. We lost H2H over Falcons and at best are looking at .500 vs. Packers and Vikings. We do have a H2H over the Panthers that could come into play.

So... 9 games left. Need 6 wins, 3 losses.

4 division. 3 conference. 2 non con.

The two non cons are two of our easier games left other than SF (Cin, Cle). Lets say split division and 1-2 in the other (NO, SF, PHI)

So 9-7, 2-4 division, 2-4 conference, 4-0 non con. Now maybe we blow an easier (Cle, Cin, or SF) game or two and go 9-7 by cleaning up in the remaining division games, but to end up in a good division/conference record for tie breaker, we'd be a decent bet to finish even better than 9-7. Our division is looking pretty average and 9-7 could win it, but may be a tie breaker scenario, which a team like Minny currently has the upper hand on.

Limping in at a division winning 9-7 where we never throw more than 20 passes a game the rest of the season would be a pretty Bears-type season though. I'll take the under on a .500 record though.

It can't be understated how weird that game was though. The Panthers used 5 drives to take up over 1/2 the game (31:05) and ended up down 3-14 directly from those drives. The Bears two longest drives were about 3:30 each for a clock kill to end it, and a missed FG. Their other score was a relatively short 2:08 drive.

Cohen and Wright both got less than 10 snaps yesterday...

The Cohen stuff has kinda been trending that way. Wright still looks like our best WR, low bar and all that that is...

Loggains was saying some stuff about how, from his history in Tennessee with him, Wright is best in limited snaps.

Seems really dumb when he also obviously is our best WR. I hope that all of this makes more sense in a few weeks and this was their way of easing him in (which I'm not sure is best for him, but it might be) and they open it up more as they go and as they need to.

I think I read somewhere that he doesn't really have any interest in being a HC.

Eh, even without tiebreakers, that's one game out with like 4 teams in between.
