What a clowny situation. If he actually is sick or didn't want to pitch game 4, Strasburg has got to feel like he just got screwed over.

If he wasn't sick and this was all a ruse then the Nationals are a dumpster ass organization and I hope they never win anything.

This was obviously mishandled from an organizational standpoint. Dusty probably mishandled it. He was trying to back his player, but ended up dumping gas on the fire. He should've said there's been no decision about who's starting. Strasburg is feeling ill, but we'll see. If he just said that, it would've been a non story.

The reason it makes Strasburg look really bad is because regardless of how he felt, the perception is that he didn't want the ball. Because even if you're sick as a dog Tuesday, why would you ever say you can't go on Wednesday. And mention how you were wheezing after a run.

I dont really see why bluffing that Roark would get the start makes them a "dumpster ass organization"

The funny thing is that if Dusty wasnt precisely stupid enough to actually start Roark today, I would have immediately known it was just a bluff. He used my low opinion of him to semi-trick me.

He was shamed into starting.

- He has a history of being big on his routine and a last minute change messed that up so he said no

- If he had the flu, why not just say it yesterday. It was wheezing and mold.

- Why in the hell would a guy with the flu be in the most cramped clubhouse in baseball instead of being hooked up to an IV in his hotel room.

It is a horsefeathers show. If we could add music to posts, the Nationals theme song is circus music.

Just like game 1 all the talk was Strasburg and Hendricks slapped them. Jake is going to own them today.

The guys on the Score said Strasburg was out shagging fly balls and hanging out pre-game yesterday normally, if he was this sick there's now way he would've been at the stadium yesterday doing that on a day he was guaranteed not to pitch. He simply was scared/not comfortable pitching today and he got shamed in to doing it and at best he's nominally sick.

And if this was all some sort of gamesmanship they thought got them some edge this is so overthinking it and....

If they were bluffing Roark with the intention to go Strasburg the whole time, all the extra frills and idiocy that has spewed forth in the past 48 hours as an organization from top to bottom would qualify them as a dumpster ass organization in my book.

Not really upset or anything, just calling it how I see it. I'm channeling some inner Jake on this one. They can do whatever they want, it isn't going to matter.

Nah, this isn't football where you have to gameplan for a particular QB. They really have nothing to gain by doing this.

I agree with everyone who says it was peer pressure and Strasburg didn't want to go initially. Only explanation that makes sense. It's Strasburg being neurotic and a creature of habit. You could see Zach Greinke pulling something like this.

I dont get the trickery. Maddon knew the whole time it was possible, so he had all the time in the world to sit in the clubhouse with two line-ups in his lap, one for roark, one for strasburg.
