9/22 World Champs (Teeth and Jewelry) @ Vaunted Brewers (Everyone They Have Left) 6:35 PM ESPN/WGN

Posted

Just when it looked over (a couple times), Baez, Bryant, Davis, and the Cubs snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, making the math a little more fun for the north siders.

Speaking of jaws, the Cubs send out John Lackey today, who excels at collecting jewelry and giving up home runs. Hopefully he does only one of them for the rest of the year, and I don't mean the homers.

The Brewers will start rookie Brandon Woodruff, who has been moderately effective in 6 starts for the Brewers, helping their piecewise starting rotation hold together so the Brewers can remain competitive. I expect Counsell will yank him at the first sign of trouble and go to Hader for 2-3 innings, because the Brewers are desperate to stay in the race, yet somehow still just a game out of contention.

For those looking to panic, instead sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

Can't decide if I want the Cards or Brewers to win the 2nd wildcard and then make it to the NLCS so the Cubs can beat the horsefeathers out of them. Or if I want them in a 3-way tie the last day of the season only to have both teams forfeit the last game because a Cards player (or coach) DUIs into the Brewers lockeroom killing Ryan Braun.

The Cubs now have as many wins as the Brewers and Cardinals project to end the year with.

If the Cubs go 5-5 to finish the year, the Brewers or Cards would have to win out to tie.

Just as a baseball fan I'd love if the Rockies, Cardinals, and Brewers all ended up tied after 162, which I believe would lead to Rockies at Cardinals, with the winner hosting the Brewers, and that winner going to Arizona for the actual one game playoff.

Realistically after the Cubs get through with Milwaukee and St. Louis, neither of them are going to be in a position to challenge Colorado.

This game should be much easier to watch. I'd love a soul crushing blowout but a close game could be fun to watch. The Brewers will be in full panic mode in a close game.

Hilarious that the Cardinals are 14-3 this month in games not against the Cubs, but because they got swept they are still on the outside looking in. If they had won just 1 against us, they'd be 3 games out of 1st and 0.5 out of the Wild Card. Instead they are 5 out and 1.5 out of WC and still trailing 2 teams.

Basically LOL Cardinals

Which only one of them can theoretically do since they play one another a 3 game set to wrap up the season.

If we win only 1 of these next 3 and 1 against the Cardinals, we'd be guaranteed to be at least 1 up on both the Cardinals and Brewers heading into the final series. This thing is pretty much over.

I really don't want the Brewers or Cardinals in the playoffs. It's entirely out of spite. But I want there to be no chance of either beating us in the playoffs. So let's just sweep them both and kill them ourselves.

How are the Brewers going to play today after all their backs were broken last night?

Also, love the Friday night game. Coming home from work on a Friday to a Cubs game is always a joy. Can even get drunk with no repercussions!

1 more against the Brewers, and 2 against the Cardinals means only needing 2 against the Reds If the Brewers win out after this weekend. This is like the worst possible scenario for us to win and it is very doable. Last night's win was huge.

I totally first read this as, "...and then kill ourselves," and thought, "man, Duke is taking this reverse jinx thing REALLY seriously."
