I've kind of already decided I don't want to see Hendricks start a playoff game this year should the Cubs make it. And I'm certainly not saying Lackey is the answer.

Seems pretty shortsighted about a guy who was dynamite in the regular season and playoffs last year & had brief struggles to start the season followed by a good stretch of pitching and a hand injury..

I know it wasn't a shoulder or elbow, but it was still an injury that kept him out well over a month, and he throws 85 mph now. If he wasn't a Cub, we'd all be mocking him in the #NotAllPitchers thread. I think he still belongs in a regular season rotation, but the thought of him in the playoffs gives me major anxiety at the moment.

Now, I'm not saying you go out and trade for Verlander just because Hendricks might be broken. You have to feel good about JV first and foremost if you're going to take on that contract. But either way, I like that they are apparently looking hard at him.

I just think its weird to forecast he wont be good. But yeah if no velocity comes back and he sucks sure I wouldnt want him to pitch in the playoffs either. But more than likely I think Kyle will be just fine in the 2nd half so we shall see.

Since his 3rd start of the season, Hendricks has a 3.24 ERA and 3.68 FIP. I also still haven't seen anything showing that it's safe to compare velocities across seasons because of the Statcast measurement switchover. I'm going to need both his velocity to stay where it is and for him to start getting pounded for me to not think of him as the same guy.

I truly hate saying this.....But, my guess is we add a C and a RP, but not a SP. At least not until August. We got Q and my honest guess is they'll look at Horseteeths last pair of starts and give him some more chances until he struggles again. Monty and Butler are still options and Verlander will conceivably be available then too, if we need him.

Mentions Gausman as a target in the next tweet in the thread.

Edit: I have no idea if this sears guy had any credibility or not but I saw it on the internet so it's basically gospel

I've said this before on here but he's a fraud IMO. Many things he exclusively reports have turned out to be outright false (potentially all of them, I've never seen him hit on anything), and the rest is him trailing a report from a credible writer saying that his sources are telling him the same thing.

Which leads to the conclusion that, if Gordon is his "source," he needs to find a better source.

Jesus. I think it's time I become a transaction monkey and just start plagiarizing others tweets.

Reading his tweets in response to himself about what Wittenmeyer reported is pure gold.

Time to check Sears' tweets. he hasn't reworded that Nightengale tweet yet, but I found my new personal favorite

He quotes Crasnick about the Cubs liking Lugo's spin and his breakout potential, and then he drops in that they're basically making decisions based off of WBC results. Man I think I need to horsefeathers with this guy.

He's been known to ban people who make fun of him. Not that you are missing out on much if he does, except lols

I don't see a compelling reason why Avila wouldn't be starting unless he picked up a knock. He didn't play Sunday, caught 12 innings Monday and pinch hit yesterday, so it's not about managing his innings behind the plate. Maybe he is about to go somewhere.

FWIW, the Tigers SBN blog mocked an Avila for DJ Wilson trade when they were doing hypotheticals for all their trade candidates.

EDIT: That news coming on the heels of some specific Cubs rumors with other backup catchers is interesting.

DJ Wilson becomes a beast in OOTP baseball. I'll pass on that deal.

jed was just asked if we have enough starting pitching

basically went on to say you never have enough and after the deadline, if there are injuries, they become much harder to address. brought up some examples of guys getting hurt late in the year last year and teams not having options.

he did go on to say that it's more likely that they'll end up making a smaller deal and already made their big deal a few weeks ago (nothing ground breaking)
