this is dumb

No, not really. It's time to get over it. What's dumb is acting like one of those two was a saint who was going to fix all of our problems while the other was a knuckle dragger. They were both terrible candidates.

No, this is idiotic. One was a competent if morally questionable candidate while the other is a completely incompetent piece of horsefeathers with nothing resembling a moral compass and unprecedented corruption capabilities. There is no equivalency here. Trump is garbage, Clinton was fine. Stop being an idiot.

It was like the choice between a turd sandwich and a toothpaste sandwich. Neither was goimg to fulfill us, yet the choice should have been clear, and at least somewhat resemebled a good thing.

This is a pretend thing that's happening in your imagination.

The fact that several posters here are vehemently disagreeing with me saying hiliary is as terrible as trump pretty much validates what I said. We'll all just have to agree to disagree, as neither side here is going to convince the other to soften their stance. We all do agree though that Trump is terrible, I'm just over the disappointment.

No, it doesn't! That's exactly where you're wrong...

Do you not understand that things aren't one extreme or another? Jesus.

Both candidates sucked, we were getting a bad one regardless. .

Well one canidate was like getting a paper cut, while the other was like getting kicked in the nuts 25 times in a row. In 4 years a lot of the Trumpsters will need to look in the mirror.

The "equally bad" false equivalency is exactly the strategy Trump's camp used to win the election. So if you believe it, you are either ignorant and got duped into voting trump, or you're a hateful racist supporter that actually wants to see him succeed. There is no third option, and anyone that falls into acceptance of Trump is just part of the problem.

Um, yeah, I will loudly say that Hillary was not as terrible as Trump

Yeah, disagreeing with your preposterous false equivalency validates your non-sense.

Go back to jehr's original post from before this got out of hand (as political discussions usually do nowadays); his original statement didn't use the word "equally" - that inference was added later by people who disagreed with him. I read his original post as him simply being unhappy with both (main) candidates, which sounds fair.

He's strongly implying that there isn't much difference between them because they're "both bad." I don't see how it can be read any other way. And it's very wrong.

Even if you're not crazy about Hillary and maybe she's a can of sardines or something else gross...Trump is a cyanide pill.

He said they were both bad candidates, and concluded there was no difference between them so just accept it. That is a faulty conclusion based on the false equivalency. Never mind that the topic was Obama and nobody brought up Clinton.

A lot of people including many in the politics thread that is obviously very left slanted agree that both main candidates were not good choices, but pretty much every person understood and understands the difference between an unlikable hillary and the raging unhinged lunatic trump.

It always amuses me when a non-liberal comes in here and talk politics to a demographic (Illinois/Chicago) that is massively liberal, but then wonders why everyone disagrees with them. And I mean everyone.

The thing is, you don't have to be massively liberal to be disgusted by Trump. You just have to be of maybe average intelligence and paying slight attention.

The group think of this echo chamber is why I quit posting on this board for about 8 years. Sorry for not falling in line with you all.

Frankly, I'm surprised by the default unwilllingness to discuss seriously any POV coming from a conservative, but that's probably because I'm a foreigner.

Good point, I'll go sit in a corner for my poor judgement. I'm surprised (even though I shouldn't be) that no one even attempted to ask my why I thought they were both terrible candidates. First reaction was "you're wrong, that's dumb, everyone that supported him was stupid or a racist....," but no one is interested in really trying to understand why people were so turned off by their candidate, they'd rather develop a label to easily explain it away.

Outside of Cook Co this is not really true. In my neighborhood just a guess but 90% of the people are right leaning. But half of them are disgusted by Trump(The educated ones)

I dont know. I've seen plenty of well thought out responses from the"liberal wing" here over the years. The typical response I see though is someone like jehr shut down as soon as facts or POV are presented. It may be an echo chamber, but most opposite view points over the years made that decision before they posted and didnt want to stick around to be the counter point.

it doesn't matter that they were both terrible candidates (which a lot of us agree with), it's that the one who somehow was able to win was the worst candidate ever. and it ain't even close.
