Cedric Benson with another DUI in Texas...

According to Rachel Rice of the Austin American-Statesman, police affidavit said that when the Austin police officer asked him to recite the alphabet, Benson “stated he couldn’t do that because he played 8 years in the NFL.” He also claimed he was unable to count higher than 3, and refused a balance test.

Of course, this happened at 2:47 a.m., so there are many possible explanations for his sudden weakness in math and written skills. Police said his eyes were glassy, he was swaying and mumbling, and that he smelled of alcohol and was: “talkative, uncooperative [and] cocky.”

I'm really sold on trading down to 6, if the Jets would do it, and snagging Lattimore and then looking at another CB like King high in the second round. King's football instincts are really off the charts, and I really think he's going to be a pro-bowl player. I also like looking for Kizer with the other pick.

It seems most analysts think King is a Safety.(as a 2nd or 3rd rounder, he'd be great) I like him and Lattimore, but I do NOT want to take a Corner inside the top 15. Too much depth at that position in this draft. 2nd or 3rd round is still going to have very solid choices available.

he's been speculated at safety, but I think his true calling is CB. At the very least, you could make him a safety. I think Lattimore and Humphrey are playmakers.

his instincts and hands are terrific, but ultimately I think his lack of speed moves him off CB. I think he's probably going to be closer to 4.6 than 4.5. plus his physicality probably plays better at safety

he seems like a guy who would go to the Patriots and have about 5 really good years at any position.

Watching the QB's in this draft is going to be fun. It really looks like we like Trubisky and Garoppolo. I really don't think we're a fit for Garoppolo, since both San Fran and Cleveland pick higher than we do, and appear interested too. Plus, there's rumors SF may try and trade for Cousins.

Garrett is surely going 1st, barring something weird happening. But, I DO think Trubisky goes 2nd or 3rd now. If he goes 2nd and Garoppolo winds up in Cleveland.....I have no idea what to expect out of us at QB. Other than retaining Hoyer.

I do think one of Kizer or Watson, maybe both, are available in the late 1st. Maybe even in the 2nd.

And yeah, Raw, I see where you're going with Cooks. I agree with us looking for route runners. I like the general premise, but think we'd need to acquire a 2nd(this year or next) to make the value even out. Because its taking us out of the elite defensive guys, by trading down that far. Multiple trade downs, to get there, would be fun though.

And I have to admit, part of me really would like to see OJ Howard at 11. That guys going to be a stud.

I think they'll spend to get their elite defensive talent. And yeah, OJ Howard is one of the players I had in mind at 11.

Russell Okung is not getting his option picked up by Denver. I'd love him at LT and let Leno and Massie fight it out on the right side.

I like this review. I would be good with trading for him provided it's not a first round pick this year (unless we pull some trade down from 3) or next year.

No franchise tag for Alshon.

LOL. This team is going to suck again.

They've now run off Forte, Marshall, Bennett, and Jeffrey (and soon to be Cutler) and gotten a total of a 4th rounder and 7th rounder in return.

Letting Alshon walk turns maybe an average unit into a huge hole for a team lacking in overall talent and more cap space than they can spend on good players

Stupid to let him walk

Pace is an idiot

maybe

maybe not

But if you're coming to that conclusion based on the fact that they won't franchise tag Alshon, I think that is misguided.

I don't understand why he hasn't been resigned at this point, avoiding the franchise tag issue all together. But letting a #1 walk at 27 years old is stupid. They aren't going to resign him at this point

Well when he passed last years deadline for an extension, he was almost certainly always going to test FA. Is there a report that actually states hes not expected to resign?

in the world of salary cap sports, it might not make sense to pay Alshon top WR money, assuming that is what he wants. To date he hasn't had the career of a guy worth top WR money.

The problem is not having much to replace him.

The Bears are top 5 in cap space. if there is a team with a need for a #1- #1a WR AND the money to do it, its Chicago. And not having a replacement just compounds the issue.

I suppose this could work out for Pace. Alshon goes out to the free market, gets low-balled, crawls back to Halas Hall and resigns. But when was the last time (if ever) has that happened with any top FA and their respective team?

They have the cap space and should use it but they could theoretically make better use of it by spending on several players instead of spending $14m/year on Alshon.

The determination for whether or not Pace is dumb has nothing to do with the Alshon franchise tag usage or lack thereof. It's not stupid to not tag him, and it's not even stupid to decide not to spend $14m/year on him in a longterm deal. The question is what else he'd do with the money.

We'll see what lowball even means. The difference last year was something like 12 v 14 right? Even at 14, Pace is basically no worse off than had they agreed on an extension last year. If he gets great offers and you have to match some crazy offer at like 16 a year, Pace has egg on his face, but there doesn't seem to be any signs that they'd lose him for nothing*

*assuming they want him, which would be a whole other matter.

not resigning Alshon during the season was stupid. And your theory about what to do with the extra money is all fine, but who will Pace get? Berry? Bouye? Johnson? I doubt he gets any of them, and there is still the elephant in the room: KEVIN WHITE IS A BUST.

I think having John Fox as head coach is the elephant in the room, but the bottom line is this team is still quite bad 2+ years into his tenure.

I also think that too much is made about "letting" players go in the NFL. Time after time good teams let good players leave and find better use for the money and cap space. This team needs a ton of help and losing Alshon would mean they'd need more, but there's no reason why they couldn't make it work.
