Also it's sounding more and more like Schwarb is gonna be leading off

And we'll be leading the NL in runs at the break and we'll be hearing that the Cubs need to trade for leadoff man at the deadline.

Bat Contreras 2nd and watch everyone's head explode.

It's always fluid with Joe so that or maybe

Bryant 3B

Rizzo 1B

Zobrist 2B

Contreras C

Heyward RF

Jay CF

I'd imagine Zobrist leads off vs LHP

Dex bet on himself and has 82.5 million reasons to smile today. Seems like a great guy with a very nice family, wish him the best. I hope he balls, but the rest of Cardinals can horsefeathers off.

But Willson is better than Russell and Heyward.

I like your line ups, but personally I'm not sold on the Almora/Jay platoon in CF. Baez and Zobrist are both better players than Almora and Jay. Playing Almora and Jay regularly will cut into Zobrist and Baez's playing time, unless the Cubs decide to make Heyward the odd man out. To me it seems the best option is to move Heyward to CF full time, Zo in RF full time, Schwarber in LF full time, and Baez at 2B full time. I want Baez's defense on the field as many games as possible, especially at 2B. Almora and Jay can spot start when the match ups favor them or someone needs a day off. Almora will see plenty of playing time late in games as well. Jay to me is nothing more than a 5th outfielder, probably a tier or two better than Coghlan.

Trust me, I'm not in love with the idea of moving a perennial gold glover, Heyward, out of his comfort zone in RF to CF, but to maximize Zobrist and Baez's playing time this seems like the only option.

This is where I'm at opening day:

Zobrist RF

Schwarbs LF

Without even getting into the huge defensive upgrade

Maybe I should clarify the assumptions I'm making.

- I think the only reason that Schwarber is considered at leadoff is that Maddon/the front office feel strongly that Bryant/Rizzo should be 2/3, and that the best hitters should hit 1-4. Since hitting Schwarber 4th would put back to back lefties, he hits first.

- Russell is trusted more than Contreras or Baez, and will hit in front of either until it's proven otherwise on the field

- Heyward will hit 6th because Jay is gonna hit 8th and they don't want back to back LHP. If Heyward, Jay, and Almora all suck then they'll have to cross that bridge, probably by acquiring a CF or something like promoting Happ.

- Jay is gonna hit 8th because if they were serious about Heyward playing CF/Zobrist playing RF then they wouldn't have paid Jay 8 million. Jay and Almora are going to play the majority of the center field, with Almora hopefully earning a near-full time role as the season progresses.

One of the things I'll always remember Boyz II Men for had nothing to do with them. In the mid 90's on my local pop radio station a person called in and requested a Pearl Jam song because his friend had just died and the song he requested was his favorite song and he wanted to play it in his honor and the DJ said "What? That's a terrible song to play for someone who just died! Here, we're gonna play Boyz II Men instead, here's End of the Road!"

Even as a 12-year-old I was like "That was a real dick move, man"

You want javys defense in there as much as possible and in order to do that want an of of schwarber, heyward, zobrist.

I'll ask David to do the math but to my human eyes that doesn't add up.

Yeah, I don't mind that lineup once a week, if the matches are favorable, but most days I prefer a centerfielder in centerfield, especially if he's sandwiched between a catcher on a recently reconstructed knee and a second baseman who seems less than confident in wrigley's difficult right field.

So happy for Dex and his family that he's getting the payday he deserves. The Cardinals Stink will never be able to tarnish what he has done in Chicago. I guess I have to get used to having a favorite Cardinal. Here's hoping for MVP numbers on an 80-win team.

Eh, after those dirty slides this year I don't feel bad at all for him. He took the most money, he knew their whole deal/culture there and made his own bed and had been a dirtbag to some of our guys so far this season.

Is it really that much of an affront to move him out of the leadoff spot? It's not like they've forced him into being a roadie for the red hot chili peppers

Something tells me they weren't exactly struggling prior.

I guess I mean the whole thing.....Playing for Matheny, playing in that city, for those fans.....Its going to suck for him and seeing an article like this, just kind of reinforces it, I guess.
