To be fair, half the time I'm responding to Mojo, and who knows what the horsefeathers he's talking about most of the time

Sports fans are averse to their team lacking (or failing to acquire) good players. How did we get brainwashed into this?

I know writers don’t get to pick their own headlines, but a writer should be immediately fired and blacklisted for something like this

its a defensible position isnt it? Post-2017 he was two years removed from a 9-war MVP season (as a 22 year old!) and was fresh off a 1.000 OPS season where he was only held back by injury.

Post 2019 he was fresh off a downish season where his defense slipped and he was in a market that didn't appear to have a great fit for him. You can argue that a player's worth is different than "what someone will pay for him," but in this context his "worth" is dictated by the market and it's not necessarily wrong that you could have probably held out and gotten him for less. Maybe.

Plus that headline last offseason was probably pre-reality check of the tightening of the actual market.

In the meantime we all just have to wait for the 2019 season to be played.

“What’s the over/under,” Werth was asked this weekend, “on how long it takes Bryce to get booed in Philadelphia?”

“It could be his first game,” Harper’s friend, mentor and former Nationals teammate replied, more seriously than you might have expected.

We expressed some minor incredulity. Not that Harper will get booed some day. Just that he’ll get booed on his first day as a Phillie. Jayson Werth was shocked to hear that incredulity. Shocked.

Oh, you think that’s out of the realm of possibility?” he asked. “It’s not going to take long. I can promise you that.

Have fun playing in a great city with some amazing fans...

bryce plainly didn’t want to go to philadelphia, his alternatives were like a four year deal in LA or a ten year deal in DC where he didn’t get any money until like 2095 or taking the daniel descalso money in chicago

And even then he would be contractually obligated to work on at TD Ameritrade during the offseason.
