The good news is that the outfielders have very few opportunities since the walls are like 250 feet from home plate

it is kinda funny to have this whole thing about how we're gonna accumulate young cheap talent so we can grab a generational talent in FA to stay on top for a decade and instead we spend it on yu darvish and jason heyward and watch the dodgers THE DODGERS sign bryce harper (who FYI is not good i have determined through analysis)

Is there any chance this isnt Harper to Dodgers now? What would their OF be without Harper right now?

YEAH maybe they just think bailey is a good bounce back guy

So KB gonna be a Dodger in 3 years now too

good that way we'll have money for 37 year old max scherzer

Jeff Passan is saying that this move alone won't clear up enough space to sign Harper and stay under the tax, but it certainly makes it a lot easier to swing a trade to clear the remaining.

Hypothetically they could use this space on multiple other free agents rather than just Harper but its hard for me to see a team making a move like this if they weren't trying to get a generational talent.

Edit: Also their OFs are something like Enrique Hernandez, Joc Pederson, Andrew Toles and Chris Taylor. They will be almost assuredly acquiring another OF.

I was reluctant to want them to sign Yu last offseason for this very reason, but people did make a good point that the Cubs wouldn't have signed him had it taken them out of Bryce Harper.

So, something for sure changed. It might have been PTR telling Theo he can't sign another six figure free agent because he's been [expletive] the bed on those, or PTR being just PTR.

They should just move Bellinger to the outfield full-time and sign a first baseman instead of Bryce Harper.

it absolutely had to be PTR changing his stance because there's no horsefeathering way Theo would've signed Darvish & Chatwood last year, if it meant they couldn't sign Bryce horsefeathering Harper this offseason.

The Ricketts do not have to move salary to get Bryce, they are choosing to use it as an excuse. The shine is off Theo and his group of geniuses. The Ricketts are liars.

Maybe if the Cubs get back to sucking again the universe will realign itself from the tilt caused by 2016 and we can get back to normal Republicans who don't say the quiet parts loud.

Ughhh Puig was my preferred backup plan for if Bryce didn't work out too. So this is a double whammy. I'd guess we're probably looking at like David Peralta or something? *sigh*

Peralta is better than Puig

The Dodgers didn't have to either, but they still did, and they will now get Bryce Harper.

I don't know if I buy that, but even if true Puig was still the only guy available anywhere close to as fun as Harper.

Peralta was worth nearly 4 WAR last year. Puig hasn’t been worth that much or more since 2013.

C’mon NL West teams. You can’t let the Dodgers get Bryce horsefeathering Harper so easily. Come get Jason Heyward, Giants. Come get Tyler Chatwood, Padres.m

Damn, it’s over, isn’t it?

actually now that i think about it bryce harper is overrated and will be inured too much to be worth 30 million a year thanks

i feel burned enough by the heyward and darvish deals now that i feel like if he had/would sign with us he'll immediately break his knee, so its for the best really
