if i was the white sox i would go $40m the first two years followed by an opt-out and a more reasonable ($30m or whatever) AAV after that. They convince Harper to come based on the early dollar signs with the idea being that if the team isnt competitive in that 2-year window he can just hit FA as a 28-year-old again.

from their perspective they're only out an extra $20m over what it would have cost anyway.

Yeah a structure like that is probably their best chance and the opposite structure is probably what we are offering him, lower amounts the first 1-2 years then big jumps. They probably would still need to offer him to most overall money too (~$50 mil more than us or Dodgers or whoever) in case of an injury or something and he was stuck there.

If he doesnt go to the Cubs which is highly unlikely then him landing in the American League is best case scenario

KBO where he can hit 150 Dongs a year for a decade

I know it’s Gonzales’s razor phone so it’s hard to tell but that bald guy kinda looks like Harper’s dad that he’s with

Picture quality's pretty bad, but I think that's Vijay Longlastname, the traveling secretary.

his post says it’s highly unlikely he doesn’t go to the cubs. at its best, it’s a poorly worded sentence.

it said it's highly unlikely he won't go to the cubs then there's no way he won't go to the dodgers.

i'm pretty sure the guy who, less than 24 hours before, basically said he thinks there's no way he's not going to the dodgers, meant to refer to the actual going to the cubs part as being highly unlikely.

Baseball offseasons are the stupidest offseasons in sports.

well the winter meetings were fun once but not anymore

Imagine if it was like football and basketball where pretty much everybody of consequence signs day 1

mostly would seem to be a product of the caps though
