I just moved to a place right behind a Jets Pizza. I know it's chain pizza, but I like Detroit style deep dish and if I'm going chain im just gonna walk 200 feet to Jets and get a few slices. That said, Art of Pizza is like two more blocks away so I don't know what's wrong with me other than being a lazy fatty fat fatpants.

That said a nice thin crust bar pizza is satisfying after several rounds of drinks thanks to it not having 7 pound of ingredients on it (specifically at the side street saloon)

Tom and Sofa are monsters with this hot dog talk.

Although I prefer my Italian beef exactly how Sofa orders it. Maybe I am a monster too?

Bottom line, paying for a hot dog that you didn't get from a grocery store or a butcher is madness. It's like paying way too much money for someone to serve you a cup of Kraft mac & cheese. Even when you go to one of those "fancy" hot dog places, it's still just a horsefeathering hot dog. Hot Doug is one of history's greatest charlatans, and it was only worth going there for the specialty fries anyway. COME AT ME, YOU (NOT HOT) DOGS.

And intentionally wanting a salty meat sandwich without cheese and with soggy, dissolving bread is madness and a half. The Chicago versions of junk food are like the Bizarro versions of all of those foods. I was more than a little surprised to find that Chicago Chinese food didn't have some horsefeathers like horsefeathering creamed chipped beef infesting it.

Bryce, I know I'm not doing a good sell job, but that baller contract will mean you never actually have to eat there.

speaking of hot dogs: there is only one spot i know of in brooklyn that sells proper chicago hot dogs (i'm talking vienna beef here) and it takes me an hour to get there from my apartment.

related: new york hot dogs horsefeathering suck.

Speaking of dogs, I endorse the The Dog Haus on Lincoln. It's probably going to shut down within the next half a year because no one is ever there, but their options are really damn good and they have chili cheese tots and a great beer selection. But no one goes so... They're dead in the water, but Chicagoans should try them before they leave.

I haven't had Jet's specifically, but I'm a big fan of the square deep dish style. Very underrated.

Oh look, another thread where people who are spoiled with riches of amazing pizza quibble over which awesome pizza is better than the other awesome pizza

Tons of good NY and New Haven-style places here.

I didn't love Art of Pizza when I tried it, but do enjoy Jet's, which is exceptional for a chain.

Pizano's is one of my favorites for deep dish and I also enjoy My Pi in Bucktown.

Chicago thin crust is a gift to our fair city as well. We don't have to choose.

the right answer in the italian beef bread debate is the one in the middle

I like a NY dirty water dog only if I can pretend to be Lennie Briscoe and get to make some pithy comment about violent human tragedy before cramming it into my mouth.

I can handle that, but I'd rather just get sloppy

Check out Piece next time you're in Chicago.

Heck yeah.

Coalfire is decent NH, too, though a bit too pricey.

One of the guys who originally started Coalfire sold his side of the business and ended up running a little cash only NH-style storefront on Armitage called, natch, Armitage Pizzeria. It was right around the corner from me, and was probably the single greatest contributor to all of the weight I had to lose. It was there for a few years, and he finally closed up shot when, of course, his lease was up and his rent was going to get jacked. It's a damn crime that it's not still around.

That's one of my all time favorite Office jokes. Number 1 is "I love inside jokes... I hope to be a part of one some day."
