Now quotes like these are more like it, Theo

I've been thinking, I feel like Theo is harder on the team than some posters here. Like, while some were trying to calm the fears of our offense being junk, I feel like he thinks it was total junk and horsefeathers needs to happen.

I like that.

It reminds me of that article that came out in 2016 about Theo and how he reacts to losses: http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/17588399/theo-epstein-mastermind-cubs-season

We’ll just have to wait for the next 26 year old generational talent who is friends and grew up playing baseball with our teams best player and has shown a desire to come play for us. Edited by UMFan83

Ok so who did Tommy La Stella grow up with?

I like to think this is especially true now. Missing on Harper/Machado means a third year in a row of actually buying into the upside ceiling potential of a coredation that just lost worse than they did in 2017. That seems like a very un-Epstein thing to do.

It doesn't much matter if PTR told him there is no money in the budget. Theo can't complain to the media about that so he has to do his best to put lipstick on the pig.

Seems like a pretty weak extension attempt. Under $400 mil and no opt outs.

Was it a weak extension attempt? Maybe, but I'd argue that it was a shrewd move by Rizzo and Co. There was no way Bryce was resigning days before FA. The move effectively helps Boras out by setting the market a bit, by allowing Boras to argue for a higher AAV without people questioning whether or not that was doable (the jump from 30-35 isn't that big, at those numbers). It sets the years barrier. I mean, Boras called the move an olive branch. The lack of opt outs looks glaring, but almost everyone assumes opt outs would be there, and there's no need to give it all away for an initial offer.

My hunch is this will come down to what people suspected for several months - Phillies making a big offer, and Harper and Boras going to the Nationals to see if there's a way that they'll match it.

wow. the charles the cat tweet really left umfan speechless i guess

Edit: Tweet must have been deleted because its not showing up anymore. It was a photo of the banner at the United Center showing the Sox logo and "Bryce Harper" and apparently the Jordan statue was wearing a Bryce Harper White Sox jersey

Isn't that something every team does when they're wooing the top free agent now? Show the person their name in the team uniform or graphics? I feel like the Cubs did something like in their sales pitch to Lester.

So the Yankees say they're out, and the Dodgers and Cubs both have news released that they may not have the money...

How peculiar.

There's obvious reasons for wanting Bryce, but I'm not gonna lie...if the Cubs get him, I'm really gonna love seeing the Chicago media bitch about being lied to.

Is everyone scared off by his asking price or are the teams using the same strategy to try and lower his price?

My money is on option 2.

Bryce and Boras meeting with the White Sox almost has to entirely be to leverage some team he actually wants to go to, to up an offer or jump in that currently isn’t. He’s not actually going to end up there or St Louis.

It probably isn't actual collusion, but this is what collusion would look like.
