Game Day in Kalamazoo this week. I never thought I'd ever write that sentence. As a matter of fact, I never thought I'd never thought I'd write that sentence.

Love seeing some MACtion in the spotlight. Hopefully WMU doesn't go the route of 2008 Ball State (still bitter about this) and 2013 NIU down the stretch.

Houston has the strangest Group of 5 bowl bid case ever. 2 losses, but 2 wins over top 10-15 teams. I have no idea how the committee will stack them up next to an undefeated Western Michigan and a 1 loss Boise State.

As for the playoff, we seem to be one unexpected loss away from tons of scenarios opening up. Maybe it requires two more as a Clemson or Washington loss just makes it really easy for two Big 10 teams to get in, especially if Ohio State isn't in the championship game.

Edit: I did not realize that since Houston is unlikely to win their conference, it doesn't matter if they are ranked higher than Western Michigan or Boise State because it's a conference champion who gets that bid.

So I should just accept that should Penn State win the Big Ten and the B1G championship game, they will still be bypassed by OSU for the playoffs.

I think they would lose to Wisconsin...

Hey I'm rooting for you guys at least as someone who can lessen the downside of potentially losing to OSU. I still don't get how the team we absolutely curbstomped earlier this year is in a position to win the division but I guess they must have gotten a lot better since then.

That was the last game Penn State lost. I declared that they might not win another game all year after that embarrassment, but something clicked and they're rolling. Hopefully they don't poop the bed against Sparty

A 1 loss OSU should make the play off. The debate shouldn't be Penn St or OSU...it should be Penn St or Washington/Oklahoma or even a 2 loss Michigan. That of course is if Penn St wins out.

I don't think Penn State will be in the discussion at all. But this is shaping up to be a chaotic playoff selection which is great if you want to see them expand to eight teams. Hearing them say how much they weigh winning conference championship games, but then picking a non-champ over the champ (who beat the non-champ) creates enough controversy to grease the skids for an eight game playoff (eventually)

I agree but the committee will have to be overwhelmed to take OSU and not PSU considering how much they talk about conference title winners being a huge factor. It would be setting a precident.

I would say OSU is probably in the best position you could possibly be for a team that in this scenario didn't make their conferences title game: 1 loss, on the road by 3 points to a top 6 team (if PSU wins BTT game) wins on the road against Big 12 champ, on the road against the BT east winner and another top 10 team at home (Michigan). Not to mention absolutely demolishing another top 20ish team. That should outweigh looking rather shaky against Northwestern and Michigan State.

We will see. I'm still holding out hope that Speight comes back and Michigan wins.

I think Penn St is a long shot also, unless Clemson and Washington lose again. If that happens it will be a free for all.

Washington is going to lose again, whether to Wazzu or to Colorado/USC. At that point the winner of the Wisconsin/Penn State game is in, as well as the winner of the Michigan/OSU game. Then Clemson and Bama. Pretty cut and dried.

If Washington manages not to lose, then the Big Ten champ probably gets the shaft (although the Penn St/Ohio St thing would be fascinating for the committee to navigate).

Not a ton of controversy in Scenario A. Scenario B would be interesting but ultimately I think you can forgive a 3-point road loss in head to head when the losing team has shown itself to be better in the other 11 games.
