they are now saying 40 mph winds blowing out. Is there any way to see historical wind records? I would have to guess that the forecast is true, it would have to be among the top 5% windiest games ever at Wrigley Field (blowing out).

It's almost like the last week of October is a terrible time for baseball.

But that's not even what would make late October bad for baseball. It's gonna be in the 60's and windy. BFD.

Well 40mph winds is pretty ridiculous. But yeah, can't complain about the Chicago temps in these playoffs.

Just want to say that I love that Fred is posting the game threads right now, and that he is the first member to have a World Series win for the forum!

Go CUBS !!

While I would have loved to have that honor, I don't mind that the Cubs sacrificed Game 1 so Fred could do it. Definitely way more fitting and hopefully he can take it home.

40 going out?

I'm concerned that this may mitigate Hendricks effectiveness. like a 18-22 run game

not gonna lie, i'm a little worried about that too.

I won't pretend to be a pitching expert, but he should still be able to induce the same number of ground balls. Yeah, lifted balls might be trouble, but those will be trouble for Tomlin too. Hendricks probably won't pitch a shutout in those conditions, but should still be able to be better than the other guy.

It's a shame the guy we're going against doesn't allow fly balls to be hit very far. Oh wait, that's not right.

That's right. It's our pitcher who is good at that. It'd also be a shame if the guy on the other team has relied on getting flyouts on balls hit at least 300 feet -- you know, the kind that might fly out of the park instead in that kind of wind.

Oh, he's gotten a ton of outs that way. And our guy hasn't needed them.

yeah i'm just terrified of some pop up becoming a basket shot in the inning that a couple of guys happen to get on with two outs on some stupid swinging bunt or something

oh i'm not even remotely worried about the matchup. i am just terrified of getting this far and baseball doing stupid baseball things. i want it so damn bad now (most obvious statement ever).

Ground balls aren't affected by the wind. You have one of the better ground ball pitchers in the league going who also happens to be the best at inducing weak contact. He might give up a gopher ball or even 2 but I would guess that for the most part Hendricks is the ideal pitcher to have pitching in these conditions.

Is my theory on Hendricks correct?

Well a lot of Hendricks success was keeping fly balls in, not just limiting them. Still better than Tomlin on both metrics, but once their pen is in you have some better ground ball pitchers they could use to theoretically limit fly balls.

I really have no idea how sustainable his HR/FB rate is or how elastic it is to wind speed.

yea, I think your right. and the implications are a 12-2 game won by the cubs. I just want it to happen, it makes me nervous talking about it, if it somehow didnt happen

what if Francona changed his starter? who could he pitch?

He doesn't. That's the problem with the Indians...they don't have healthy starters.

Posted
Heyward could hit one out in that environment

As much as I enjoyed his hard hit ball to the outfield last night, I'm more convinced he'd hit into some ground ball double plays, so he's out of the line up in those conditions. Besides, Zobrist has to play RF to get Schwarber into LF.
