watching highlights of the game again and just no noticing Pence trying to pull a Jordan tongue while catching that. What a doofus

That implies Pence having a level of control over his tongue that I'm not willing to concede.

Saying it was Jordanesque is a huge leap. It was more like a dog randomly slobbering over the chance to eat his own horsefeathers

I don't get that thinking. I mean, do you want the calls to be right or not? It's an interesting debate and I saw that Passan and Law are on opposing sides.

A player making contact and remaining completely on top of base but very briefly not actually having contact and being called out is just not 'right'. An over slide is a completely different thing.

This. Overslides, over-running the base, those are completely different than Javy's slide. Again, I don't think the people who determined how replay was going to be used really considered a slight disconnect from the base. I look at it as a loophole that managers are exploiting. Especially since in instances like Javy's slide, it's incredibly subtle.

not to mention if a play can be that ticky-tack and called into instant replay, what about all the "out by proximity" plays at 2nd where a ss mayor may not actually touch the base while holding the ball when he turns a double play?

The neighborhood play no longer exists. The SS/2B has to touch the base.

Agree. I think it's akin to the NFL reviews, in that you can't review one thing and come back and change the ruling on something else. I think in almost all cases, the opposing manager is reviewing if the tag got there before the baserunner touched the base. I feel like reviewing and coming back with "well, no he didn't tag him before he got to the base.....but he moved off the base slightly while the tag was still there" is pretty weak. Especially considering the tag could be a big part of the reason why the player ever so slightly came off the bag.

Correct. You should be safe unless you are completely off or past the base. Every single play can be reviewed if the fielder simply holds the tag.

When did the rule for running through first base come into effect? Was it always like that?

Is there any way for me to quickly delete every post I've made about Travis Wood this year?

Tim will irrationally delete all posts about Trais Woods

I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to more: reading Tim's post after Wood's homer or TT's after Pence dropped that ball.

Cognitive dissonance would not allow me to make a post at that time.

However, with the benefit of time I can both applaud his efforts yesterday while still fostering my irrational dislike for him.

To be honest I was kinda happy to hear Costas at the start of the game, his voice reminds me of listening to playoff baseball growing up, but holy smokes the verbose notes he forced himself through and now the non-stop sanctimony, please never again

I loved him as a kid. Was he always like this?

probably but when he's calling michael jordan doing dope horsefeathers your perception is changed

and again, he had round ball rock to set the table

all of this is probably exactly why i was so wrong about costas for all these years

did zobrist let lose and f-bomb?

sounded like, and to follow up on the pre-game convo, that was definitely not his typical Ms. Zobrist walk up song before his AB

Must be alternating because he had the normal music for at least one of the ABs earlier.

i'm pretty sure what he's playing is his wife singing benny and the jets

There is no way to verify this, but this redditor claims he sat next to Sean Marshall at Game 2

And I was sitting next to Sean Marshall at the game, no joke, upper deck at Wrigley. Guy didn't cheer a single time, was with a girl, and left after the 8th inning. As if he just still lives in Chicago and wanted to see what his old team was up to.

Kind of funny to think he might have been in the stands as the guy he was traded for got the win and hit a HR.
