It's going to be weird when Illinois somehow finishes above northwestern in the B1G.

They are going to beat Michigan State and Rutgers, sneak in, and get Groce an extension. Gross.

I didn't even realize Illinois was in shape to have an outside shot at an at large...i don't hear anyone talking about them. Their RPI is 56th and SOS is 12th. Beating MSU at home gives them a 5th top 50 RPI win (although 3 of those are against the 46th team and the 50th team (x2) and they play each other this week). Their worst loss was at Indiana (87th). If they beat MSU and Rutgers they are 18-12 (9-9).

Could they be 1-2 BTT wins from making it as an at-large?

If they beat MSU and Rutgers and win their first BTT game, they are very, very close. If they win 2 in the BTT, they're in forsure unless all hell breaks loose in conference tourneys.

Haha, there is a bracket projection that has Illinois as the last team in, playing Wichita State in the first four. Illinois could lose that match up by 40.

I saw a bracket projection that had Indiana as the last team in after beating Northwestern. WTF?

Current projections don't give the Big Ten much of a chance to get any teams to the Sweet Sixteen

Obviously a lot of things need to play out and need to see exact seeding and matchups but that makes sense from what I've seen out of BIG teams this year. Purdue is the one team I'd feel okay about picking to win 2 games, if Wisconsin figures things out they could too but right now it's tough to see them winning more than one and any other BIG teams that get in.

bukie, any chance you will have the time to organize another Mock Selection Thread?

I would have time to participate but not to organize, etc.

Sure I'll throw something together.

I'm very very conflicted...

As if your obsession with Northwestern basketball wasn't bizarre enough.

No I mean I'm pissed Michigan lost and it's very painful way to lose. I'm conflicted as to whether I hate Northwestern now.

Um. Holy horsefeathers.

When that pass was thrown my first thought was "sweet Michigan is gonna get the ball under their basket"

Also I have never horsefeathering seen a lane violation with no FT attempt wtf

Hate Walton for playing a garbage game and playing unsuccessful hero ball against a PG who wears velcro shoes and has mittens pinned to his jacket all year round.

Walton played fine most of the game, one bad possession of hero ball doesn't erase that. Irvin took a poor 3 point attempt with plenty of time on the clock to give NW that last possession. And I think he had a lane to put the ball on the floor and drive and he didn't. That was the worse of the 2 final minute Michigan possessions

If only Illinois had shown up for a half against PSU.

Still playing really well at the right time. This is what Groce used to do at Ohio.

Can't lose to Rutgers, though.

Yep, certainly not a gimme. Have 4 potential BTT opponents for the first game.

For 7 seed

IL beats RU

NE beats UM

IA wins 1 of 2.

They get NE if NE also beats MN tomorrow, or OSU loses to IU

They get OSU if MN beats NE and OSU beats IU

IA in 8-9 game

IA loses last 2

OR

IL loses to RU

UM beats NE

IA doesn't sweep

UM in 8-9 game

IA sweeps

OR

IL loses to RU

NE beats UM

IA wins 1 of 2.

man, it's too bad Iowa had some horrible losses earlier this year. They're starting to come around and hopefully they can do some damage in the Big Ten tourney.

Yeah, I'd kinda prefer not looking at needing to beat Iowa for a 3rd time to keep tourney hopes alive if we beat Rutgers. Although that'd only happen if you lose to PSU at home, while Nebraska loses to UM at home so I guess I won't be too worried just yet.

Too many dangerous teams in that 8-10 range right now. Michigan should probably win on Sunday because while they still have a pretty good shot if they lose their last 2, it definitely puts things up in the air quite a bit.

There's probably 11 B1G teams for which you could find an argument for the NCAA tournament if you squint hard enough.
