KenPom is updated with this year's info. Yay! Purdue basketball conflicts with the Cubs tomorrow night for, I assume, the first time ever. Guess I'll be missing my first Purdue game in a while.

IU with a win in a classic vs. Kansas to open the season last night. We just have so many weapons. OG led the team early with 10 points in the 1st 8 minutes or so. Then Bryant dominated the middle of the game, where he scored most of his 19. Then Blackmon put up 22 in the 2nd half and OT in case the world forgot about him. And if this is going to be what Curtis Jones is like as a freshman....wow!

The homer in me thought 11/12 was a little low in the rankings for this team. Bryant is probably the best returning player in the nation. OG Anunoby was clearly poised for a breakout season, and getting Khawi Leonard comps. And Blackmon was poised to be this team's leading scorer on a really good team last year before got hurt. I was hoping this team would be ready early and could steal one vs. Kansas, but they actually played better than I thought and didn't "steal" a win...they earned it. The only teams I think that are clearly better at this point are Duke, UNC, Nova, UK, and probably Oregon (don't know much about Xavier).....and a lot of those teams are counting on freshman to carry them this year.

INDIANA

Picked up a ticket for IU-IPFW next week. :stickman:

College basketball is unwatchable so far this season because of the officiating. Both games I've watched (KU loss to Indiana, KU win vs Duke) have been riddled with whistles, not to mention officials simply not knowing the rules. Who wants to watch both teams' best players riding pine with two fouls 8 minutes into the first half? Brutal.

I generally like Bilas, but his excuse-making for the officiating was getting bad tonight. No, Jay, the player doesn't need to know how to play with 4 fouls by not chasing somebody around a screen on the chance they flail their arms in the air like a 4 year old when a bee flies by.

Yeah, he was bad on that front tonight. I think part of it was him doing everything he could to not sound like he was rooting for Duke, so he just focused on that stuff. (And I thought he did an impressive job of not sounding like a Duke homer, FWIW.)

I generally like Bilas too. And watching a lot of ACC basketball I agree he goes above and beyond to try not to sound like a homer. Sometimes so much so that I feel he sounds anti-Duke to a degree.

Nah, he couldnt be THAT cruel. If it were elsewhere, he would have done it under cover of night.

Plus, if he'd gone to say.....SLU, Whitman isn't the type of dude to let that go without some major complaints and an investigation.

but, ignoring recruiting for a while......the Illini are really really underrated this year, and I don't normally say, I don't think.

They have talent depth and not just regular guy depth, finally. though i still disapprove of the offense they run, as it doesn't appear to be much of an offense at all. however, they are notching assists at a decent rate, so I'll give Groce that.

Hill could be BTPOY, I'm not completely confident though that it will happen with the Indiana-bias, but, he's that good and does everything well.

Finke, JCL, Morgan, Abrams, Thorne, Black. There aren't any gaping holes on this team. Tate even looks like he's coming into his own, and Lucas looks pretty well-rounded already. It will be interesting, but with Groce, they could be completely screwed up, too.

Also, when Duke gets GIles, etc. back they are going to be ridiculous.

I have to see it, the guy has had 4 operations on his knees already. He could still be really good, but that is a lot.

A lot of growing for this team to do but this Iowa team is entertaining so far.

and even better, the cubs won the world series so I really don't give a horsefeathers how their season goes. I'll get to relax and have fun watching them
