Who is your game 2 starter? Hendricks has been better at home. Maybe Lester in game 3.

i, personally, couldn't care less about home/road splits. arrieta, lester, hendricks, lackey is how i'd go.

i could probably be talked into hendricks #2 but it wouldn't be because of home/road.

Looking at his home/ road splits http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/split.cgi?id=hendrky01&year=&t=p

these things jumped out at me. He's given up twice as many HRs (9) on the road as he has at home (4). Home ops. is .512 vs .664 on the road. His era is a full 2 runs higher. Not sure if these numbers are important enough of a difference to matter but from a Home/ road splits perspective Lester, Hendricks and Arrieta makes the most sense.

Rizz, Zobrist, Russ, KB, Soler, Fowler, Heyward, Ross, Montero, Javy, Coghlan, Contreras, LaStella, Lester, Jake, Lackey, Hendricks, Chapman, Rondon, Strop (barring further setback,) Edwards, Grimm, and Wood are virtual locks, leaving 2 spots:

I'm thinking that Montgomery's left handedness buys him one. The next probably comes down to Hammel, Cahill, and Smith:

Hammel: Now would be a good time to get him to the pen.

Cahill: If deemed a better option than Hammel, which is why I think Hammel should spend season's end in the pen.

Smith: We were quick to condemn him after 3.2 god awful innings; and while 2 stellar innings aren't going to cancel that out, who knows, maybe it really was the hammy.

Dark horses:

Zaz: He's been a nice late season surprise, and I look forward to seeing more of him; but I doubt it will be this October.

Szczur: Perhaps in round 3 if they want an extra bat, but for now, I'm thinking that his right handedness makes him the odd man out.

I don't think Montero is a lock. And if Rob Z keeps pitching well, I could definitely see him making the pen. Especially if we're up against the Dodgers or Giants.

Let's revive this with about 10 days until the NLDS starts. I think there have been some changes since early September.

1) I think Miggy is a lock now, and could quite possibly be the main starter at catcher

2) Coghlan has surpassed La Stella as the first lefty bat off the bench IMO. La Stella might still make it but if he has to choose between the 2, based on how Maddon has used them recently it seems to be Cogs

3) I think Joe really wants to get Joe Smith on the postseason roster

4) If Soler's injury is more serious than thought, his absence might open up a spot for a borderline positional player like Almora

So here is my projection

Position Players

Starters

C - Montero

1B - Rizzo

2B/OF - Zobrist

3B/OF - Bryant

SS - Russell

2B/3B - Baez

CF - Fowler

RF - Heyward

Bench

C: Ross, Contreras

IF: LaStella

OF: Coghlan, Szczur, Soler

Pitchers

Starters

1. Lester

2. Hendricks

3. Arrieta

4. Lackey

Bullpen

CL: Chapman

SU: Rondon

SU: Strop

SU: Edwards

SU: Grimm

LHP: Montgomery

LHP: Wood

Toughest omissions (no order): Almora, Cahill, Hammel, Zastryzny, Schwarber, Smith

uh...Edwards?

I was going to put a disclaimer that i probably forgot someone important. I couldn't believe how relatively easy it was to fit Smith on the postseason roster. Well it is when you don't put on one of your best relievers.

I agree Hammel is fucked if we go with 11 pitchers, which it sounds like we will.

The only difference with your roster, UM, is I feel like Almora has surpassed Scissors based on usage lately. Although, I'd bet both will make it since Soler's glass interior is cracked again.

Yeah, I think Almora makes it regardless of the Soler thing. Sczcur is OPSing .269 in 18 Sep PAs, and had a .778 in 45 Aug games even with the 2 HR game. And I think the late game Almora/Fowler/Heyward outfield sounds pretty good. Was real nice that Almora had his big game last night to instill some confidence in the bat.

I love Schwarber but its not going to be difficult for them to leave him off the roster since, you know, he hasn't played all season and isn't really in baseball shape

If you're referring to my roster, was just a joke :)

Feel bad for Szczur, on the roster all year but not on the playoff roster (for the NLDS at least). Obviously Almora is a defensive upgrade over Szczur, but I think Almora's strong hitting after September callups (.310/.355/.552/.907 in admittedly small 31 PA sample size) combined with Scissors struggles since mid-august (.136/.190/.169/.360 in 61 PA) clinched the spot for him.

Yeah I feel the same way.

Szczur was on the roster all year?

I don't understand feeling bad for him.

I don't understand feeling bad for him.

a small Ukrainian girl is alive thanks to him

Which is truly wonderful. But ironic, since his baseball skills died a slow death over the course of the season.
