With a big lead, I would almost consider just pulling him after 80 pitches and letting him rest that arm. Yeah it might tax the pen before a series in Colorado but, i think our starter being rested and pitching well in October is more important.

Or maybe we can all just relax and accept that occasionally a starter is going to give up 4 runs in a start and that isn't a disaster.

Jake has never had a 7 walk game in his career, and this is only the 3rd time in his career (and 2nd as a Cub) that he's allowed 6 walks in a start.

Is anyone really freaking out?

Definitely not freaking out but if there's anything to be concerned about its the 6 walks. He has struggled with his command for large parts of the year despite still being an ace quality pitcher. I kind of thought he had turned the corner since the ASB so its a little concerning to see him have no command of his FB again.

Could just be a blip, and Jake is too talented of a pitcher to struggle with his command for long, but we are in a 6 week coast to the finish line so a natural worrier like me starts looking for areas that need to be shored up before October. I think its more likely than not that I am silly for even bringing it up when he's dominating through October.

As soon as the 4th run scored, there was a string of "pull him, he's got nothing" posts.

that's a helluva hand for someone who had a pretty bad game

Maybe because Jake is awesome and we know how good he has been and can be so we want to show appreciation that we are allowed to watch him pitch

I don't see that at all.

Is this his first time throwing to Willson this year? Don't even remember.

Yes

I always figure that's difficult for a pitcher, but it also is probably just an excuse.

I profiled earlier in the thread the 3 run home run Jake gave up was a bad pitch and not a bad call by Contreras. Looked like a 2-seamer that he called for low and out of the zone and and Jake threw it belt high over the middle of the plate.

That was the first hit he had given up in the game.
