Hadn't seen one specifically dedicated to the rotation as a whole. A question to kick off: if the postseason came today, who do you think Joe puts as the first three starters?

Arrieta, Lester, Hendricks, Hammel. Lackey can be the long guy/piggy back guy with Hendricks/Hammel (not that either one needs one now). Lackey out of the pen may actually be a pretty decent weapon, IMO. He throws strikes and at 1-2 innings he might be able to sit 95ish going all out. Lackey is definitely getting a start(s) over Hendricks/Hammel though if he's healthy because veteran

I know, its ERA, but still cool. Leaders on the year. All five in the top 20.

Hendrix 3

Arietta 5

Hammel 6

How do you not put Hammel in the playoff rotation if he keeps this up?

BTW: I'm all for a 6 man rotation the rest of the way.

I would guess 1-4 will be...

Arrieta

Lester

Lackey

Hendricks

Obviously depends on Lackey's shoulder from here on out.

I also like the idea of a 6 man rotation from here on out. I would probably set a 75-85 PC on them in September.

Also, get Zobrist (espec. him), Rizzo, Russell, and Bryant some extra rest as well.

The 3 and 4 order doesn't really matter, but man what does Hendricks gotta do to get that #3 spot

If it was up to me, he would be there.

They'll justify it with veteran BS but it's more about keeping a rectum at peace.

I don't think so. I think Joe has a lot of faith in Hendricks at this point. He doesn't have a short leash on him, letting him go for complete games even. And he speaks glowingly of him. Kyle is one of the top starters in the league, and they know it. They'll give him every opportunity to help us out in the playoffs.

Assuming we go with a 6 man rotation 1-2 more times after this weekend or skip one of his starts it looks like Arrieta is going to come a decent amount under his IP from last year. So that's good.

44 games left divided by 5 is 8.8 so at most he should make 8 more starts (7 is most likely I'd think with the 6-man rotations lately) so he will come in a good 20 innings or more innings under his IP from last year.

Hendricks should end up right around where he did last year IP wise, fwiw, if anyone is worried about an innings uptick there. He's at 140 now, was at 180 last year, so with 7-8 more starts he should have no more than a 15-20 inning bump at the most.

If we do a 4 person rotation, I'm totally cool with piggybacking Hammel/Lackey in some fashion, for some reason that makes me feel like both of their annoyingness would be held in check

Hendricks obviously deserves a start all his own.

[expletive] [expletive] [expletive]. The Cubs can go [expletive] themselves in the ass. THIS is what I get for my 3 game series this weekend?

I'm pretty disappointed (clearly) - ScrubMD, this is me angry.

you get to see the best pitcher on the cubs and the best post-break pitcher in the national league. you poor thing.

how about we not look at the order of the playoff rotation like an olympic pedestal and instead look at it like an offensive line?

or defensive line. whichever teamwork metaphor you wanna use.

Montgomery and Hammel don't really excite me (sorry). I'm not really that angry, but I was really close to Arrieta/Hendricks.
