Most WAR in first two seasons – position players in MLB history

1956-57 Frank Robinson: 13.4

1939-40 Ted Williams: 13.0

2015-16 Kris Bryant: 13.1<<

1936-37 Joe DiMaggio: 12.8

>>On pace for 14.2

I'm starting to have the feeling that Kris Bryant is good at playing baseball

i'd like to see a list like this that goes by games played instead

Yeah, because I still prefer this start to a major league career: http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=10155&position=OF. Saying it as "first two years" eliminates everyone who got a mid- to late-year callup to begin their careers.

Still damned impressive, though.

This is rough, but Bryant has played 287 games. Trout had 40 in 2011 and 139 in 2012, at 11 WAR total (I don't know how he ended up with 0.7 WAR going .220/.281/.390 in 40 games, but I digress), which means you can take 108 of his 157 2013 games, or 69% (nice) of his 10.5 WAR, so 7.2 WAR.

Just realized they weren't using FG above, and I was, and I'm not doing that again, so for this comparison, through 287 games:

Bryant: 14.5

Trout: 18.2

Kris has been in a bit of a slump the last week or so. I think he was an easier sell when his OPS was pushing 1.000 and his BA .310, now he's "only" at .956 and .297 so here come articles pushing other candidates.

I've also seen the idea being pushed that Rizzo and Bryant are going to split votes, but I really don't see Rizzo getting MVP votes over Bryant at this point.

To play devil's advocate: Corey Seager is really horsefeathering good and plays on a team with only one other player at the moment with a WAR above 3 (Justin Turner, 4.9. Pederson is at 2.9). The Cubs have 5 players on offense with a WAR over 3, 4 of them have a WAR over 4. So you could argue that Seager has been carrying most of the offensive load on his shoulders the whole year to keep them in the hunt for a playoff spot, while without Bryant the Cubs would probably still be leading their division by a wide margin.

To stop playing devil's advocate: Bryant has absolutely been the better player and deserves the award, plain and simple.

The Case for Corey Seager for National League MVP

Our website uses a defensive rating that vastly overrates him compared to eye test and all other public objective metrics.

Will Bryant get his 100th rbi in:

A. Chicago vs St Louis

B. Pittsburgh

C. Cincinnati

D. Fall one short again

Tomorrow along with his 39th Dong.

Hope he gets hot over the last 10 games and ends with something like .300/.400/.575 40 HR 110 RBI. Definitely doable although the RBI and OBP might be a stretch

I don't care about the other numbers as much now that my pea brain is satisfied at the 100 RBI mark, but I def want 40 home runs
