I mean, we were 6.5 up and there was a night where it looked like we would lose and they would win and myself and others made comments that we will start getting worried if it's down to 5.5.

That's still a pretty horsefeathering big divisional lead.

That's still a pretty [expletive] big divisional lead.

Sure, though it had been 12.5 just a month before, and the Cubs went through a pretty prolonged bout of average baseball while the Cardinals seemed to be finally playing to what was expected of them at the right time. Personally, I didn't think the Cubs were ever going to actually give up the lead, but I was worried that the Cardinals could get close enough that it prevent the Cubs from, say, giving players extra rest and playing the September callups less than I would prefer, and just generally making things more stressful than we wanted or expected it to be.

I was never too worried. I just didn't want it to be to close for comfort. I have experienced enough sports heartbreak recently where my team had been in extremely advantageous positions and wanted to (and still want) to avoid it becoming close.

yeah, it's kind of mystifying why people/robots are making a bigger deal out of this than what you said.

Describing the discussion around here at the time as "pretty bleak" displays a complete lack of comprehension about how truly bleak this site can be when things actually are going poorly. Spirits were still relatively high and there was pretty much just dark humor addressing the struggles.

I didn't think it was bleak but some of the actual panty twisting going on was both stupid and funny (in how stupid some people are) - most certainly not referring to sofa tho.

Ichiro just got 2,999... they're back in Miami on Monday will they get that stadium all the way up to half filled?

It's just took the sweet tea drinking, hillbilly bum nearly 40 pitches to get out of the first vs the Braves

2nd inning is going no better, well same amount of runs but half the pitches so I guess that's an improvement.

Stanton hit one at Coors that is estimated at 504 feet

The home run in question:

Even HRT had it as a longer home run, by one foot (495 to 494 ft), than his 2012 Coors blast that looks like it clearly travelled further:

Manny Machado just hit his third home run in three innings.

My fantasy team is quite pleased right now.

Big Game James has taken on a new and different meaning.

Shields today... 1.1 IP 8H 8R 4HR

He remembered how awful he is today. That nice streak seemed a little bit of smoke and mirrors from the stats.
