Hey guess what? One more clean inning from Lackey and we are in Strop, Rondon, Chapman territory

I'm a big fan of this scenario in the playoffs.

So I know Sale said before the season he was gonna scale back his velo, but with runners on base vs the middle of the order up, isn't that the time to show some of your old velo? He threw one pitch above 93 mph to Bryant, Rizzo, and Zobrist. I don't buy this is all by choice. Not at all.

His velo this year is essentially the same as it's been his entire career as a starter outside of last year.

Granted, that doesn't take into account any potential loss in velocity as the season wears on (since this is only a little over half a season).

True, it's not as drastic as I thought.

But man, his stuff tonight just seems very "blah." This is the first I've seen him this year outside of the one inning ASG appearance, and the peak velocity in clutch/strikeout situations just isn't there. He just threw a 92 mph fastball on an 0-2 pitch with a runner at third. His breaking balls are also very loopy, and he's depending on called strikes with those instead of whiffs. I'm used to seeing Randy Johnson 2.0, and I'm not sure what I'm watching tonight.

Joe might have done it anyway, but this is definitely a move you make when you have Strop-Rondon-Chapman to close out.

I know it's our nature to expect the worst, but it's weird how scared of the Cardinals some are when

a) Cubs have the best record in baseball

b) Cubs have the largest division lead

how great would it be to be friends with Rizzo

And they knew. They kept trading for him because he just stood the horsefeathers out. Everyone loves him.
