I love Willson's bat and his fire, but we're going to have to let him play some LF or we're the ones gon' get burned.

I swear this stretch of bad baseball has you posting drunk 24/7.

That was his second bad throw. They have just come in the last two days, so you and Tryptamine are freaking out about it.

wait. why would "controlling his stuff" require insane athleticism?

Arrieta's stuff isn't the same as Colon's stuff.

so for some reason arrieta relies on his crossfit membership to be an effective pitcher while no other pitcher needs that?

just trying to follow

You see a lot of other pitchers throwing 95 mph slider?

they're doing literally everything wrong

Another person that has no idea what "literally" means.

to be fair, i expect lackey to run to 3rd base after hitting a grounder to 2nd to start the top of the next inning.

So what was pitching way, way better than expected for most of the year? I guess you can say "well this is the true Cub rotation" if you're a glass half full of diarrhea type of guy.

Kyle is 100% right and it's not even arguable.

It takes every ounce of willpower I have not to point it out every time someone wrongly cites "regression to the mean."

So what, even though they're top 5 in FIP/xFIP and they're a good rotation on paper, the past 3 weeks of terrible pitching is what can be expected for the rest of the season? I'm trying to figure out what the argument is here.

That calling it regression to the mean is wrong.

By that logic, can Montero play LF too?

i'm still hung up on the usage of...

Allowing the tying run to be 90 feet away with less than 2 outs instead of at 2B is kind of a big deal.

Look, we got out of the inning without runs.

Ninnies.

Tim, seriously, I get where you're coming from, but SOME freaking out is merited at this point because they've played a LOT of shitty baseball.

Yeah, sure. All catchers do that from time to time. It sucks when it happens. That doesn't bother me nearly as much as the boneheaded throw to 3B when Javy wasn't even covering.

But it is very small compared to the value he is providing at C.

The argument is that almost the entire lineup has gone to [expletive] in this stretch and that's not "regression to the mean."

That's true, it's a bad stretch of play that is really not predictive of much going forward.

It is both the quantity and nature of the freaking out that has me overcompensating. it is fine to freak out a bit. Don't be completely and totally irrational about it.

No, but it didn't come out of nowhere and it's sustained enough that it shouldn't be completely dismissed as indicative of issues they will be dealing with at times for the rest of the season.
