Baez had seen enough runners stranded on 3rd that he just went for it. I actually don't mind that at all in that situation even though it wasn't even close.

i'm mainly ok with it now that i realize lackey was up next.

In general I agree but that ball was in the infield when he rounded third. Even in little league you're out most of the time on that.

Looks like that was on Gary Jones trying to stop him too late.

yeah, I actually thought he was sending him. If he stopped him it seemed like it was after he got to third pretty much from what I could tell.

The pitching performing way, way worse than their median expectations is not "regression to the mean" and calling it that is gambler's fallacy.

So what was pitching way, way better than expected for most of the year? I guess you can say "well this is the true Cub rotation" if you're a glass half full of diarrhea type of guy.

Kyle is 100% right and it's not even arguable.

It takes every ounce of willpower I have not to point it out every time someone wrongly cites "regression to the mean."

So what, even though they're top 5 in FIP/xFIP and they're a good rotation on paper, the past 3 weeks of terrible pitching is what can be expected for the rest of the season? I'm trying to figure out what the argument is here.

Oh, man, Jones was waving him initially and then Javy put his head down and started running harder. So he missed the stop sign.

Yeah, this. Id have preferred hoping for a wild pitch or Lackey getting lucky.

Now everyone needs to apologize to Javy, because it was clearly on Gary Jones. You can't change your mind as the player is touching 3B.

Well you can if the circumstances change and your decision changes. But at that point there's a possibility it's not going to be seen in time.

The argument is that almost the entire lineup has gone to horsefeathers in this stretch and that's not "regression to the mean."

is mattress firm some kind of money laundering front?

i am not exaggerating when i say there is a 5 block stretch in skokie with about 5 different locations.

seriously. we have like 3-4 here in (especially compared to Chicago) small Greenville, NC. People buy mattresses, what, every 5 years? at the earliest?

Just because today is the Holy Sacrament of Castro doesn't mean you actually need to make decisions like him.

Clearly we're talking about the starting pitchers; relax. It was a mistake.
