lol but what about plexiglas joe

What does the "plexiglass" refer to again?

He was down on the Cubs in the preseason based on the rather inelegant assumption that they'd be gotten by the "plexiglass effect," which is where a team that has a big change in wins one year tends to regress toward the mean in the next (i.e. going from 78 to 97 means they are due to drop off). Which would probably be true if they hadn't pillaged the rest of the division for all their good players in the offseason.

F.P. Santangelo (Nats color guy) is one of the biggest homers this side of Hawk Harrelson. To hear him tell it, the only reason the Cubs are winning is that Scherzer throws hard and "on days like this" all a batter has to do against a power pitcher is touch it to get it out.

He's also surprised that Lackey can strike guys out at this point in his career. Even though his k/9 has been higher the past few seasons than it was early in his career.

I do have to give their TV crew some credit for last night's game. They were very critical of the umpire with respect to the Fowler ejection. All things considered, I thought they did a decent job with the broadcast last night.

I've heard a fair bit of Santangelo over the years, and he's always been an extreme homer/cheerleader. Bob Carpenter (the pbp guy) is much better.

I've never been more happy to be stuck in shitty, rainy traffic; the Nats' radio broadcast has been a blast. The PbP seems genuinely dong-drunk thanks to the Cubs, and the color guy has basically completely disappeared.

he said that the cubs would decline because teams that take big jumps (2014-15) usually fall back. nevermind the fact that the 2015 team had a drastically different roster than 2014, rendering anything about 2014 irrelevant, and nevermind the offseason the cubs had. i just thought it was a really, really poor choice of an example of a plexiglas team.

if he wanted a good plexiglas team, the astros might've been a better choice.

Ahh, like the opposite of a dead cat bounce. Not a terrible thing to say for most teams, but like you said, we added more talent and 2014 doesn't really have any bearing on these past two rosters.

Fowler with 16 RBI already out of the lead off spot. Zobrist with 24 and Rizzo with 28.

This team is so fun.

from the mlb network highlights i saw of the pirate series, it seemed like their guys were much the same.

And never mind the fact that they weren't supposed to be good until 2016 anyway. The whole 2015 season was just a bonus.

Maybe this is being picky but should we have our 37 year old pitcher out there over 100 pitches in a blow out game? There's plenty of bullpen guy who could do some work.

uhh that is neither true nor does it have anything to do with anything

Those guys were just straight up fawning over the Cubs.

Excuse me?

I don't think any of us were projecting the Cubs for more than like mid-80's in wins last season.

If anyone gets on, pull him. Otherwise, he is fine for this inning.

I was thinking the same thing.

I was about to suggest putting Neil in, but remembered he's on bereavement. Let's see this Patton character (who is so obscure, that his baseball-reference site still has errors that haven't been corrected: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/p/pattosp01.shtml )

Rainout coming Tuesday. He's going to get an extra day's rest.
