This was his worst game, as measured by xFIP, in his last 24 starts.

Yea the Reds were making a lot of contact on Arrieta tonight. He looked pretty human.

Yeah actually I kind of tuned out in the middle innings to do a few things around the house because the game was in hand and based on Jakes stuff I didn't even realize he was throwing a no-no. Was pretty surprised when I came back for the 7th to see that

Yeah, I mean, it's hard to knock a guy for his no-hitter. And he wasn't "Edwin Jaxon no-hitter" bad. But, it just goes to show, he is so good that this could happen literally anytime that he takes the mound.

So Bryant today....

raised his BA by 40 points (.233 -> .273)

raised his OBP by 30 points (.303 -> .333)

raised his SLG by 117 points (.383 -> .500)

raised his wOBA by 57 points (.304 -> .361)

raised his wRC+ by 37 points (87 -> 124)

Not bad.

Plus, Zobrist's slash line looks much better. Rizzo's OPS is back over .800, despite his sub-.200 BA. Fowler was on base three times, inching ever closer to 2 WAR. Ross and Szczur can rest on their laurels for awhile, with their hot starts. We just need some BABIP correction for Rizzo, Russell, and Soler, and for Heyward to get going. But, the offensive numbers are starting to fall in line. I presume that things will be looking even more impressive by the time we leave Wrigley next week.

I mean, there's just no words to describe him. He's still Second-Half Arrieta.

And, he's going to add the Silver Slugger this year, too...

He should/could win a GG too

Gold Glove

Cy Young

Nobel Peace Prize

So according to a SportsCenter tweet, the only other 2 teams to win by 13+ in a no-hitter in the World Series era also won the World Series that year.

Not sure where they came up with that but as far as I can tell, it's wrong. Frank Smith threw a no-no for the White Sox in a 15-0 win in 1905 but the White Sox didn't win the World Series that year. The 1938 Yankees did win the World Series and had a 13-0 no hitter.

The Cubs are 2 wins under their Pythagorean.

The Cubs lead MLB in runs allowed per game.

The Cubs are (barely) in 2nd place in MLB in runs scored per game.

I could be wrong, but I think that's good.

Other way around.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're making a joke and Brenneman didn't take over the Twitter account.

cubs did the same thing last year

I woke up after the game had ended, and fired up MLB.tv half expecting to see that we had been held to a run or two. I saw the final score was 16-0 and thought "well, this should be fun to skim through", and hopped from one offensive highlight to the next, making it nearly to the end without realizing Jake had thrown a no hitter. It wasn't until I switched to the Reds feed to listen to Brenneman's call of the final out that I discovered the full scope of tonight's domination.

Needless to say, I went back and watched a lot more of the game.
