Is there any potential interest in Billy Hamilton? Not so much to fill an everyday spot, obviously, but as a defensive replacement/weapon pinch runner late in games ala Jarrod Dyson in Kansas City. Center Field is a question mark after this season, and if he could maintain an above .320 OBP, he could be a very valuable piece. Additionally, I can't imagine the asking price would be that high for him and his unique skill set would be an upgrade above Szczur in the short and long term.

Just get Quentin Berry again if you want that skillset. At least with Berry no one pretends that he might not be a complete negative in the batter's box.

You talk about maintaining a .320 OBP as if that's something he has done. His career OBP is .288.

I'm saying that his skill set in two areas are elite that utilized property could be an incredible asset for a contending team and a more valuable piece than some of the replacement level options we have right now... And if he sucks again this season, they could choose to not go to arbitration with him. I think it'd be a low risk, decent potential return on investment given that he probably wouldn't cost much.

 

Then again, what the hell do the Reds have to play for this year?
