Did you let them know not much. Cardinals jump us by 6 games, pitt, and Dodgers. So 4th, could be off a little but I think that's it.

There's so many conflicting emotions when reading that post. On the one hand, lots of good Cubs stuff. On the other hand, why are you the way you are?

I'm not 100% sure of the veracity of these numbers since Fox Sports is the only source and they don't seem to be super consistent, but I'm pretty sure that the Cubs lead the league in catcher pickoffs, with at least 10. That might be twice as many as the next best team.

And that despite Montero being the wreck that he is? Damn.

Again, these may not be accurate, given that Fox doesn't include Contreras in their team totals and I have no idea how frequently this is updated, but this is what they have by catcher:

Ross 5

Contreras 3

Montero 2

No other team is listed with more than 5.

I've looked around and had the same problem. Fox Sports seemed like the only place that tracked pickoffs. I finally found it, venturing deep into the Baseball Reference catacombs. You can find it for teams and individuals in here. The team one is listed in the third table down, as "PO."

http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2016-specialpos_c-fielding.shtml

They have Montero at 0, the Cubs with 8 as a team and no other team with more than 5. Ross leads the league, despite only starting 41 games behind the plate. And Contreras is third, despite only starting 26 games behind the plate. Ross led the league last year, too.

Maybe by the numbers, but it's still gotta be stressed who they're pitching against. When you have so many teams in the league tanking this year, it's a little easier to feast on them and put up numbers such as these. Without even looking at the stats, I'm gonna guess that the mid 90s Braves rotation was probably a little more dominant than this.

I agree with this. We all knew this was coming. The idiotic superlatives are coming out. I will only say this: Let's see if the Cubs rotation can throw four consecutive complete games in a playoff series. Beating teams like the Brewers and the sickly Padres doesn't make any staff the greatest of all time.

I hadn't even really noticed anyone saying that the Cubs have one of the greatest rotations of all time, but after looking up a few "Best of" lists, including one about the best rotations of all time and one about the best rotations of the past 25 years, if the Cubs rotation finished out the season continuing the pace they're on, they could easily be considered one of the best of all time.

Oh God they are already plotting out their way to downplay the Cubs winning the World Series "yeah you might have won the World Series with one of the more dominant teams ever but you didn't pitch 4 consecutive complete games in the LCS." or "Yeah but it took you losers 5 games to win the World Series. YOU ARE NOTHING until you SWEEP your opponent"

The widely considered best rotation of all time is the 98 Braves. Their numbers looked like this:

Here's what the Cubs, at present, look like:

They're really not all that far off from the consensus best rotation of all time. At the very least, if they keep up their pace, they could easily be considered one of the Top 5, IMO, maybe even Top 3... but we have injured Lackey and 2nd half Hammel making an appearance so who knows what will happen.
