Maybe by the numbers, but it's still gotta be stressed who they're pitching against. When you have so many teams in the league tanking this year, it's a little easier to feast on them and put up numbers such as these. Without even looking at the stats, I'm gonna guess that the mid 90s Braves rotation was probably a little more dominant than this.

I agree with this. We all knew this was coming. The idiotic superlatives are coming out. I will only say this: Let's see if the Cubs rotation can throw four consecutive complete games in a playoff series. Beating teams like the Brewers and the sickly Padres doesn't make any staff the greatest of all time.

Well the 05 White Sox faced real teams like the 05 Tigers who had improved from their 43 win season to become juggernauts at 71 wins... and there was the dominant 56 win Royals..

not that it means our staff is chopped liver by any means, but 1998 was also a slightly more offense-friendly environment than today

Yeah but doesn't ERA+ equalize the ERAs relative to the environment they play in?

Posted
Yes. Yes it does.

And they are extremely close.

Indeed, just so it's easier to visualize:

Top Braves ERA+ / Top Cubs ERA+

187 / 184

168 / 154

144 / 144

117 / 132

102 / 118

Braves top half is better by a surprisingly narrow margin. Bottom half is substantially worse than ours. At the moment anyways.

strop is the most oddly built baseball player. is he fat or is he just super muscley. Or is it both, why does he look like a former college running back who now hosts pregame shows

What the what?

He's not some bloated pudge. Roger Clemens spent half his career looking like Jim Miller doing studio work. Lots of pitchers bloat up. Strop is a truck.

I thought the same thing; he's got old timey Robert Mitchum-body.

so this is kinda weird. there's a place near skokie (where i grew up) - i think it's actually in lincolnwood - where i go to pick up cuban sandwiches from time to time called taste of cuba.

well the dude who has rung me up most times is hanging out in LA with georgie

(he's tagged as taste of cuba something or other so that's how i recognized him)

Do you recommend this Taste of Cuba place? Not a ton of good Cuban options out there in the west burbs. I used to go to Cafe 28 in Lakeview all the time but they closed down.

are you considering skokie and lincolnwood as "west burbs?!"

anyway, the sandwiches are fine. can be hit or miss. i've definitely had better, but that's usually been in florida.

Nooooo, I'm saying there's nothing here in the West Burbs. I have family in Skokie I visit probably once a month so I'd stop down there next time if it was worth going.

ah, gotcha. well they just opened a 90 miles cafe at lincolnwood town center that is supposed to be pretty good. i get most of my fill of cuban food at my mom's, so i don't go to those places that much.

not sure if this was posted...only a few days old.

seems the dumbass meatball sector of our fan base kept len and JD from their rightful spot at the top of these rankings

Analysis: The Cubs’ rating increased from two years ago, and you’ll soon see why they dropped out of the top five. However, they did end up with the highest percentage of F votes (11.92%) of any team in the top 12.

the gap between the white sox home and away broadcasts is both hilarious and appropriate

What do you think it is? Meatball-rage over the Cubs not having some beloved ex-Cub in the booth? Bitterness over Len not being party of Harry's family of the damned? Inexplicable longing for dead soul-smarminess of Steve Stone?

combination of the first one + disdain for their analytics pushing is my guess
