Please point to a single person acting like Hoerner is anything more than a possible option as a starting player for the Cubs to a degree anywhere resembling the amount of times you feel like you need to point out that you think he sucks. Just one.

Like I said, 11. I don't think Hoerner sucks, there's a huge gap between sucks and borderline untouchable, which actually has been said

Name and shame these fools.

Does anyone know if we’re getting all those end-of-season press conferences today? That’s a thing right?

Theo will be speaking today at 3 IIRC

Don't know where i belong; but the reason i don't go to Mlb games much any more is the bums make too much $$$ for very little talents. I guess i grew up watching a different game in the 1950's and 1960's when players thought they were lucky to have people pay to watch them and kids idolized these sportsmen.

Log off, Grandfather.

My Dad to this day says "many happy returns" on my birthday like he's freaking Michael Caine lol.

Yes, he's really old. It's kind of refreshing and nice to hear these old terms and expressions (sans the racism and outdated worldviews)...

I told a colleague this year at the beginning of the year that Schwarbs and Harper would be essentially the same player. He said my argument was ludicrous. Maybe it was but look at their stats this year:

Schwarber Harper

528 AB 568 AB

132 H 147 H

38 HR 35 HR

.250 BA .259

82 R 98 R

92 RBI 114 RBI

.340 OBP .372

.532 SLG .511

.872 OPS .883

70 BB 99 BB

155 K 170 K

2.3 WAR 3.9 WAR

So very much not the same player.

OK, to me those numbers are pretty similar. A few more walks, RBI and hits for Harper in more ABs. Right? What am I missing?

Player A can hit .300 avg/.350obp/.450slg in a park factor of 100.

15Hrs

75RBis

Player B can do the same.

If player A has a 42% increase in WAR, player A is a much better player

You would have won the argument if he has never heard of WAR or you only used basic stats. I would've left WAR (the best stat you presented) out of it.

That K number for Harper is surprising.

Yeah, 1.6 WAR (much of that I'm assuming is defense and 70+ odd plate appearances more) is not a minuscule difference - however accounting for salary and all that, well, its reasonable to say if there were concerns about Harper they're not entirely diminished. I wasn't as full-throated pro-Harper as many on this board, but reticence to sign him only makes sense if you're also committed to putting that kind of money into improving the team in other places, which it turns out they very much weren't into.

Yeah I have to admit its pretty shocking to be here after where we ended the 2016 season at. Not saying it wasn't worth it (it totally was) but its been 3 seasons and there isn't much young talent to be excited about, much of the players we expected to get better got worse or stagnated, and our entire pitching staff is about to enter the retirement home
