keith law still has hak-juk lee in his top 25 midseason prospect list

Dave Cameron still can't believe the Rays managed to fleece the Cubs out of 60 replacement level PAs from Robinson Chirinos before they [squints] sold him to Texas for nothing.

I found the starter we need ...

He's made 3 starts, 14.1 IP, 15H, 6R, 5ER, 0HR, 2HB, 8BB, 5K

We could trade him for Chris Volstad again. Inexplicably, that guy is still collecting MLB paychecks. He's the proud owner of a 5.83 ERA with the White Sox.

Obviously you wait and see how he does the rest of the season and in the playoffs, but if you had to make the decision today, would you resign Justin Wilson assuming the price is right?

After a horrible first 3 weeks in May (and since May 26th), Wilson has a 2.88 ERA, a slash of .200/.301/.288, and 35 Ks, 12 BBs in 22.1 IP. His 79.6% strand rate is not great, but decent. He obviously possess higher than average velocity and spin rate.

The best (and more expensive) FA options this coming off season are Andrew Miller (34) and Zach Britton (31). Other FAs that are more on par with Wilson are Jake Diekman (32) and Tony Sipp (35).

I honestly don't know what I would do. Your thoughts?

Nope, pass. If we are spending real money Britton, Miller, Or Ottavino (he’s my #1 target if we are spending anything real on RPs) would be the only guys I’d spend money on. If not just bargain hunt and I have no interest in Wilson coming back. Smyly/Monty are also LH pen options to start next year.

So the top target is obviously Bryce Harper. A lot will depend on whether we're successful in signing him. Next one on the list is what to do about the SR. Can we count on Darvish next year? We might need to trade someone from our young core to get a youngish, cost-controlled starter. I think we're trading Happ this offseason.

Do I want to re-sign Wilson?

No. I don't trust him and I don't believe his next contract will be a good one for the team signing him. He has good stuff, but his control comes and goes. I think we're moving on from Wilson this offseason.

I'm not sure about going after Andrew Miller or Zach Britton. If the price is right and we miss on Harper then I could maybe see signing one of them. They might not cost as much because of their injury-marred seasons. I'd rather sign Britton over Miller if I had to choose between the two of them.

EDIT: So a source or someone who knows people inside MLB told me Andrew Miller was hoping he got traded to the Cubs back in 2016. He really wanted to come here if the Yankees were going to move him. Theo and this FO are very familiar with him as well.

So, that's a no then...

"We weren't sure we could afford to sign Justin to such a long deal" Epstein told reporters, "but then we saw how some guy in jeans came to a bunch of games in a row in July and knew we had to keep the rock of our bullpen in Cubbie blue."

Well, now they just have to find some 3-4 hitters*.

If you assume the price is right, by definition it is yes, isn't it? Or is the question whether you waste a roster spot on him?

Yeah, I guess what I mean by that was would you rather spend a commensurate amount on someone like Wilson or overspend for Miller/Britton?

Our #4 hitter has been pretty horsefeathering great.

If you're talking about Baez, then yeah, they should leave him in either of those spots since the cumulative sub-.775 OPS out of either ain't exactly rubbing my rhubarb.
