Just realized the Cubs have a chance to do something they've never done before this season (to my knowledge):

Have two hitters with 40 or more home runs in a single season.

Nope but we've had 3 Cubs hit at least 35 in a season (2004 w Alou, ARam and Sammy)

Wow, I can't believe that Aramis never hit 40. That surprises me.

I was more surprised that he hit 38 one year. Never thought he got that close, but I barely paid attention in 2006.

I remember him more as a mid-high 20's guy, like he was in 07-08.

Soler has been gone just long enough that most of the early season struggles have been erased from my memory and he's been reset back to 'awesome young prospect ready to breakout' in my mind.

Fowler and Soler starting their rehab assignment in Iowa tomorrow and both are expected to start, per Bruce

If I wasn't saving up vacation days for postseason trips to Chicago I'd probably drive the 3 hours to go watch.

Is Coghlan still here? I'd bet he goes

Coghlan is on the DL. Even if he were released when he's healthy (which he may be) he won't make any roster room.

I figured I must have missed him going on the DL since he hasn't played in so long. Thanks

I think Szczur has earned a spot on this team. Maybe Soler takes a little more time in rehab until a deadline deal opens up a spot or possibly Contreras goes down for a little bit until injury opens up a spot. Not ideal but it buys a little time and it will be hard finding time for both Contreras and Soler and gets Willson some more consistent playing time to stay sharp.

There's an 8th reliever taking Coghlan's spot, so call it Coghlan, call it Patton, Fowler's spot is accounted for.

Soler's is trickier, it's probably a choice between Almora and Szczur.

And Szczur is out of options, so it's gotta be Almora if that's the choice.

at that point, almora isn't going to provide much beyond being a defensive replacement, so it makes sense to send him back down for a little over a month.

Remember, Sharma was acting like they were trying to trade Seal Boy. My guess is they accomplish that and/or move Soler before he makes it back to the team.

Has Sharma ever broken any sort of story/sourced rumor that ended up being true?

I remember him predicting a lot of wrong things, but he was never really reporting them as sourced rumor either...just what he thought would/wouldn't happen. I've never gotten the sense that he's very connected. Just a notch or two above a blogger type.

Patton -> Fowler

Almora -> Soler

DFA Richards -> Nathan

???? -> Coghlan

LaStella still has options left if they wanted to send him down for a few weeks to keep Coghlan on the roster instead of releasing him. They could obviously fake a Montero injury as well.

I can't remember anything he's actually broken, that came to fruition. But I think he was the first to say we were interested in Teheran last deadline. I know he's brought up interest in different IFA's. I just figure now that he's traveling quite often covering them now, he's likely to have decent info.

Trading La Stella seems weird to me. Joe loves him.

Trading La Stella leaves you one injury from Kawasaki on the roster and playing with some frequency. He's not a prize to hold onto, but he's a useful MLB role player. Sure Candelario is a possible option, but he's an uninspiring option until he actually starts hitting in the 2nd half like he has in the past. If given the choice between trading/demoting La Stella or doing the same for Szczur, I think you dump Szczur. He's got less of a track record to go on, and he's got much stiffer competition with Almora, Contreras, even La Stella and Baez(via Bryant), plus Zagunis in AAA.
