You think any realignment is pointless though.

that's not true at all.

I invented the current format.

if they add 2 more teams they probably need to do something. But just deciding to make the AL all eastern time zone teams and everybody else the nl is freaking dumb.

You could go full NFL Style, with the only wonky geographical situation being Baltimore in the South. I put Montreal in the AL and Austin in the NL to avoid having all three Texas teams in one division/league, but whatever works

NL NORTH

Chicago Cubs

Cincinnati Reds

St Louis Cardinals

Milwaukee Brewers

NL EAST

NY Mets

Philadelphia Phillies

Washington Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates

NL SOUTH

Florida Marlins

Atlanta Braves

Arizona Diamondbacks

Austin Hipsters

NL WEST

LA Dodgers

San Diego Padres

San Francisco Giants

Colorado Rockies

AL EAST

Boston Red Sox

NY Yankees

Montreal Expos

Toronto Blue Jays

AL NORTH

Chicago White Sox

Detroit Tigers

Minnesota Twins

Cleveland Indians

AL SOUTH

Texas Rangers

Houston Astros

Tampa Bay Rays

Baltimore Orioles

AL WEST

Oakland A's

LA Angels

Seattle Mariners

KC Royals

If you switch Austin and Montreal, you could have the NL East be Mets, Phillies, Pirates, Expos. Move the Nats to the South then and then the Orioles can go back to the AL East.

You could also move the D-Backs to the AL West, move the Royals to the AL South with all of the Texas teams, and move the Rays to the NL South.

So NL South would be Nats, Braves, Rays, Marlins

I really don't want eight divisions. There's no good way to do the playoffs with that. Back down to 8 teams? Lose the awesome WC game. NFL-style 12? Division winners playing in the play-in game is awful. 16? Too many.

First step is to make the DH universal so nobody cares about changing leagues.

If you move the Reds out of the NL North and replace them with KC, everyone in that division plays in the same time zone.

Can we give the divisions names. For example, the NL south could be the NASCAR division.

Putting this here.

Just a question of when. I think Montreal is a lock. It'll be interesting to see where the other team lands and if Tampa Bay & Oakland stay put.

I don't really like the idea of expansion and don't think it's needed or being demanded. Just move Tampa to Montreal and if Oakland can't get a new stadium move them to wherever.

Tampa does pretty well in TV ratings IIRC...it'd be nice if they could just get a good park in a good location that can draw good crowds.

“Multiples of fours just work better (for scheduling) than multiples of fives,” Manfred said during a meeting with sports editors from around the country.

I'm hoping MLB is smart enough to go with 2 8-team divisions in each league versus 4 4-team divisions.

yeah Montreal deserves a baseball team because they did so well with their previous one , attendance was through the roof and olympic stadium is a great baseball stadium. i dont see anything going wrong with giving them another baseball team.

give it to a city that deserves it and will cherish one, like Las Vegas.

Who said they'd play in Olympic Stadium?

Also it really didn't help that their young juggernaut got derailed by the strike and then dismantled basically immediately.

You could do the NFL thing and have a 12 team playoff, 6 in each league/conference, and have byes for the best two teams in the league.

I'm against further expanding the playoffs though because we already have 162 games to determine the best teams in the league and more playoff games just means more crazy luck of the draw garbage for champions.

I am very much in favor of bringing Montreal back, I now they never had good attendance but it just feels right to bring them back.

Bye's would be awful in baseball. Sitting for more than a week waiting for other series to finish?

The best way, imo, would be 4 division champs and 1 wild card. The wild card plays a one game playoff against the worst division winner, and then move on from there normally.
