I regret never getting fitted or taking lessons. I bought a really nice set of Taylor Made woods and irons and I've "gotten by" on those. My biggest problem was always my swing. The way my swing works, I pretty much have to be perfect at the contact point, because I never take dirt after contact. My arc is designed (by me) to reach the point of contact at the base of the ball and it's immediately ascending back up on follow through. I have tried to adjust to take dirt, but never have been able to do it successfully.

Basically, if I miss the exact point of contact, my club either bounces before the ball, digs in before the ball or I blade it. Muscle memory makes it where I hit the contact point more often than not, but it's probably the biggest reason I never took my game to the next level.

Since you're getting ready to get out there, I'll share the really cool side effect from my new clubs I got last year.

I picked up about a club or club and a half in distance. So instead of a 7, I'm hitting 8 or sometimes 9. I play in a league at a local muni and there are a handful of not quote 350 yard clubs. I rush over after work and there's no range, so I just started hitting 5 iron off the tee. I hit more greens with 5 iron/9 iron than I did with driver and chip from trouble (or touchy 50-60 yard fairway shot. Knowing I had that extra distance let me focus on staying in play off the tee and avoiding penalties. Eventually you have to hit driver, and when it's working its awesome, but it was an AHA moment for me and it really helped my scores.

Hope it goes well for you and IMB

I used to play a lot and I mean A LOT so I already had a fitted set, they had just gotten old. You're absolutely right about properly fitted clubs adding distance for those who have been playing without.

We played twilight so we only got 12 holes in. I shot 7 over on those 12, which was to be expected. Driver certainly wasn't there, and I didn't chip well so I left myself with a lot of very long putts.

This is the course we played, y'all should check it out if you're ever in the area.

I improved a lot last year (relatively) when I started focusing on hitting my 7-pw accurately at the range instead of just bombing my driver.

now if im at the simulator? im taking that big dog out. but it was crazy how much more comfortable i was from 150 yards and in once i made myself focus on those clubs

My only birdie of the day was on #11. The lord works in mysterious ways.

I've been going to this simulator to work on some things while i wait for grass. they added this app functionality so it sends you your swing videos. i've recorded myself before but from behind, which i guess isn't ideal. this is a side view camera and it really illustrated what im doing wrong, particularly with my driver. my swing looked nothing like it felt. but it helped me immediately correct some of the easier parts. today i was consistently 275-290 with the driver and in the low 160s for ball speed. that's a massive improvement from even a month ago. im disgustingly addicted

I'm not a golfer and can't stand most of the elitist stench of the sport. Nothing is worse than the Masters. The almost all White CC for millionaires and billionaires didn't allow a black person to play in the tournament until 1975. Mandated that all cadies at the course be black until 1983, And didn't have a Black member until 1991.

Don’t forget no female members until 2012.

Is ole Hootie dead yet? I hated that horsefeathers, you know damn well he "loved" Tiger winning those late 90's tournaments.

Ever since the LIV thing started, I haven't really paid any attention to golf, other than seeing the occasional quotes from players hating on other players because of whatever organization they chose to play for. I still peak into the Masters yearly, but I get bored with it pretty quickly seeing a bunch of names I don't know on the leaderboard.

Might be parsing that last sentence wrong, but the majors basically exist outside of the PGA/LIV split, and pretty much every big name in golf, regardless of what tour they are affiliated with, is playing this weekend.

The Master's is separate from the other big tournaments. It's not an open, it's an invitational. Yes, the big names, but The US Open et al. are different.

Took today off to watch golf but with the delay had a couple hours so went to the sim. Played pretty well. Took a couple mulligans around the green so I could practice some different types of shots but nothing that saved me any strokes to be honest.

the birdie on ten was a 175 yard par 3. Rolled the drive THREE FEET SHORT. it was headed dead at it and just died. The screen started flashing while the ball was in the air, there were stars and stuff, fake crowd screaming. Thought I had it.

Staff guy happened to be there and said if you get a hole in one they take your pic and put it on the wall. Made it worse. You can see three bogeys and a triple like right after lol

Scheffler arrested outside of the PGA this morning for disobeying traffic cops after a pedestrian was killed a couple hours prior. Like taken out of his car walked to a police car in cuffs, on video.

talk about opening up ‘all cops are bad’ to a new demographic
