I swear that's a cub fan troll. 95% of his posts are about the Cubs.

100%

And he's awful at it. Most of those guys had him pegged immediately. He's just hamming it up at this point.

Aledmys Diaz is hitting .396 .431 .688 1.119 in 102 PA this year. Matheny is batting him 9th. Against a lefty.

Must be all that chess and strategical thinking getting to his brain.

In Matheny's years as manager he's benefited tremendously from the groundwork laid before him, but he is an awful on field manager. His apparent obstinance in the face of common sense is Dusty-esque.

I thoroughly enjoyed him repeatedly going to lefties to face Rizzo in the playoffs last year in the face of every statistical indicator that it was a stupid idea.

I'd still rather have him face a lefty if I were the opposition.

The problem is that Siegrist is pretty terrible vs. lefties

From what I have seen, he certainly seems to be one of those who are almost OCD about doing things a certain way regardless any other factors. Like the Diaz thing; he's decided he belongs at the bottom of the lineup, and he's sticking to it (and probably costing the Cards wins). Or batting Holliday in the middle of the lineup even though he has been bad all season to this point.

It's like Dusty, seemingly unaware that you can move players around the lineup based on their performance, and that winning is more important than "disrespecting" players

Yeah, if you have a good lefty, definitely, but a lefty for the sake of a lefty will end badly against Rizzo.

Wainwright vs the Angels tonight....

5IP 11H 7R 6ER 1BB 3SO 1HR

Remember when, pre-season, every idiot just thought it was an afterthought he'd return as his ace self? He's rotation filler at best at this point. Oh, he's also owed $19.5 million this year, next year and in 2018

Truth and it sucks.

Come on. He's got a .871 OPS with a .267 BABIP. Holliday horsefeathering hits.

At the time of that post he was hitting .235/.322/.431.

I don't really think Holliday hitting in the middle of the order is a mistake, but it's an odd thing to plant a flag about. In the previous calendar year to that post he was hitting .236 /.332/.397, his offense declined from 2013 to 2014 to 2015, he's 36 and he missed time with injury last year to boot.

That kind of explains the "last calendar year" bit. When he's healthy he hits.

He's 36 and was slumping pretty hard for a month plus prior to the injury last year. Again, he's not a .700 OPS guy yet, but incredulity at the idea that he isn't considered an offensive machine isn't really well founded.

Yeah, he is aging and before long he's going to stop hitting, regardless of his health. But the point that I was trying to make was that sliding him down and a guy like Diaz up until he started hitting would have been more prudent, imo. Even if a struggling player has a proven record, that doesn't mean you have to let them figure it out in a vital spot in the order. A player's spot on the lineup card doesn't have to be fixed, regardless of their history.

He's been declining and will continue to no doubt. However, your argument is that he's 36 and slumped for a month a year ago. I think it would be silly not expect a .800+ for the remainder of the year and next season to boot, granted he's healthy. When he's healthy he hits.
