Carpenter/Gyorko/Wong/Martinez would have to be the worst defensive infield in baseball.

Seriously. Could be historically bad.

They should go get Machado like now, which I’m kinda fine with them depleting their system even further to do it since I don’t see him signing there.

Then when he signs somewhere else in the off-season we can read thousands of “trader” tweets.

So that Greg Holland late addition has been something else...

His stat line: 12 1/3 innings, 14 H, 14 BB/9 K, 0 Saves/2 Blown Saves, 2.27 WHIP and a 7.31 ERA!

Great signing so far.

So, basically identical to his last month and a half in Colorado. Imagine that.

It’s fine, Reyes can replace Flaherty when his elbow or shoulder gives out after another 120 pitch outing when his team is up 5 runs. Is Dusty consulting for the Cards now?

Hicks ranks 184th amongst qualified relief pitchers (there’s 187 qualified ones) in K/9, how is that possible?????????

i think most of the reaction to his low k-rate is silly, even if i get it in the context of the fastball. Hes only like 20, he's never pitched above A+ ball, is it any surprise he doesnt really know what he's doing up there yet

Yuck

Alex Reyes last night

7.2, 0 run, 1 hit, 3bb, and 13 k

I was thinking about that and Flaherty's most recent start today. They're still going to struggle to score runs with any consistency, but the Cardinals are going to have a monster rotation in 2019 and going forward.

Just like the 2015 Mets

Apparently, he throws a lot of sinkers. Not sure what his GB% is, but he should have a high K/9 with how hard he throws.

His breaking ball (I believe it's a slider) isn't that great and his command is probably a 40 or 45. They definitely rushed him up to the big leagues before he was ready.

Miles Mikolas signing looking pretty good through two months of the season. About to go to 6-0 with a complete game shutout of the “Hot Mess” Royals on 108 pitches. His ERA is sub 2.30.

When will he begin to suck? Or will this be another “horseshoe up their a$$” find for St. Louis?

Reason 1 billion to never trust spring training. Even though I bought in to his suckage this spring.

It's probably an Eric Thames situation. Hot start his first time around the league, then settles in as an averagish player. That'd still be a win for the Cardinalss considering his contract, but not quite peak Cardinals Devil Magic.

Also, here are the team ranks in wRC+ for his opponents to start the year

22 (Brewers)

22

24 (Reds)

24

7 (Pirates

3 (Cubs)

26 (Padres)

20 (Twins)

23 (Royals)

Good on him for beating the Pirates and Cubs in back to back starts but he's mostly benefited from a soft schedule.

Man is Greg Holland trash. Cards down 3-1 to Royals in top of 9th. Holland comes in and promptly gives up two singles, then a walk, then a Chief Justice 2-run single. YANKED, and still nobody out, 5-1, men on first and second.

Oh, and his ERA went up from 7.30 to 8.76. :D

We better enjoy this gift while we still can. So at this rate he probably gets DFA sometime in June. Enjoy this fellow Cubs fans.

PS -- Also, the Cards lost a draft pick for signing him lol.

BFIB nation is maaaaaaad about Rizzo’s slide today and it’s hilarious.

I have no doubt that if a cardinal did that we’d hear about the “pussification of America” in response to critiques

Wonder how they felt about this in 2015

Credit Bourjos for screwing up Pacheco's throw with the slide.

Dirty play? Unwritten rules and whatnots... not sure how I feel about that slide.

It was legal

He was within range of home plate so it's technically a clean play, right?

I wasn't dirty, catcher knows he's coming, I really don't see an issue.

Admittedly I'm cherry picking, several didn't like the slide or questioned if it was dirty.

Also going through their game thread and finding them wondering why Heyward is struggling at the plate and how he's so likable so they hope he gets going is interesting.
