On the flipside, there will be a HUGE "he was a big part of their world series runs/glue guy/heart and soul of the team" narrative that i could see getting him in

Yeah he's gonna be lauded for the most intangible, intangibles for his case to get in over any sort of hard facts/stats.

That's exactly what is going to happen. Baseball writers will talk about his playoff and all-start appearances, shut down defense, and leadership, and gloss over his pedestrian-to-terrible offensive numbers.

The Cardinals haven't been above three-games over .500 all season.

Oh man this is the best thing I've read all day

even better than how the 43 year old nerd got the hottest women?

To be fair, Jane Fonda doesn't look that hot any more.

i looked at the box score of the cards' win tonight. man do they ever have a lot of guys who are playing over their heads offensively. fatt adams, carpenter (to some extent), diaz, moss, their backup catcher, some random utility infielder. pretty funny that they're still 10.5 games out of first.

4-0 since you said this. Dammit Duke!

Well, 2 of those wins are against the Pirates so there's value to us in some of those wins.

That's cute. I remember when we were 6 over... on April 15.

Ah, the dark days. Too long ago for me to remember.

Hey, don't short them. They were 6 over on April 13th.

I'm kind of annoyed the Cardinals are showing life again.

I liked it better when they were buried and totally and completely irrelevant, and now they're just like barely relevant.

I demand a 6-0 home sweep of both Pirates and Cardinals on that short homestand.

somebody has to keep the horsefeathering mets out of the playoffs

As of now, I'm just happy that it looks very likely that one of the Mets, Cardinals, or Dodgers will miss the playoffs entirely, and at the moment the two that make it only get the wild card. I'd prefer the Pirates come back and take one of those WC spots though.

Agreed. Even year or not, I don't mind facing the Giants in the playoffs (they're, IMO, a lesser evil to the Mets, Cards or Dodgers in a short series, as little as that may matter)

Now, if they acquire Ryan Braun this year as well....hm....

the dodgers aren't in that conversation at all for me. they're one of the ones i need to see keep the others out.

Not having to deal with Kershaw would be nice.

At least they'd use him up in the wild card game and only get to use him once. Arrieta didn't pitch for us until what, game 3?
