Colombia is in an interesting position. 20 minutes left and as it stands, they’re through. But they’re only through for sure if they win. If they tie and Japan ties (they’re down 1-0), Colombia is out. So if Japan scores, Colombia needs to score.

EDIT: And as I type that, Colombia scores.

Looks like this will come down to Fair Play points as it stands right now.

Japan is at -4 and Senegal at -6. If I am reading this correctly, we are a second Yellow for Makino of Japan away from drawing of lots.

Yep. So Senegal will goal all out for a goal and Japan will probably sit back, try not to concede and hope Senegal doesn’t score.

LOL at both Belgium and England fielding their B-side tonight.

Probably ensures a better game since players will want to show their potential.

Yeah, 9 new starters for Belgium and 8 for England. Clearly neither team cares a ton about winning the group.

Both have seen the bracket, but "less travel" is the official excuse

Januzaj didn't read the memo.

I think the bracket thing is slightly overblown only because Germany is now out.

-Colombia is a much tougher game than Japan, even if James doesn't play.

-Brazil is better than Switzerland and Sweden but there's a chance you get Mexico instead. And it's not like Sweden and Switzerland are pushovers.

-The semis are probably a wash since you're probably getting a really good team regardless (Spain/Croatia vs. France/Portugal/Argentina).

I think I'd rather take the Colombia-Switzerland/Sweden path but it's not way easier than the Japan-Brazil/Mexico path. FWIW, 538 has England at 38% to make the semis while Belgium is at 31%.

This is a super fun match. I can appreciate the nuances of a nil-nil draw but every once in awhile it’s awesome to get one like this

Wish Argentina would have scored around the 85th minute or so just to make things interesting. Oh well.

Really nice first goal from Uruguay. Cavani with a cross field pass to Suarez and Suarez with a pinpoint cross to Cavani.

I don't watch much soccer, so sorry if this is a dumb question, but are the refs in this game swallowing their whistles? Seems like they're letting them play on on a ton of tackles

Man, Suarez is a whiny bitch. Also, terrible missed foul by the ref in like the 90th minute on Uruguay just outside their box.

So they go from a potential Messi vs. Ronaldo matchup to both teams being out. I'm sure Fox is pissed

Fox hasn't cared from the outset, and the better team won both games today, so it'll be a better matchup as well.

Half expecting some South Korea vs Spain and Italy type referee shenanigans in Spain-Russia today.

I'm curious if a whistle would have blown had that ball not gone in. The Russian defender was tackling him to the ground
