I wonder what it feels like to spend $140M on notorious party boy, Jack Grealish, the day before Messi comes available.

Anyway, I hope he enjoys a couple of years in Paris before coming to Miami.

So they lost Messi because of a stare down regarding the super league and the new private equity investors in La Liga.

They should lose many, many fans over this.

Vines to Belgium

Antwerp (the "Great Old" because it is the oldest club in the country, est. 1887) isn't a bad place to land. They had a lot of turnover this summer, primarily getting younger, and as a result have lost their first two games of the season that just started (which is nothing to worry about). He essentially replaces Lukaku's younger brother who played left back for them last season.

First important game would be the Europa League playoff game on 08/19

I'll be surprised if Messi isn't at Barcelona this season. Tebas can't afford to lose him any more than Barca.

Sounds like Sargent is headed to Norwich.

Messi just landed at Paris' Le Bourget airport.

PSG fans will be even more insufferable this year.

Messi to PSG is the most boring move he could have made among the big leagues in Europe. I don’t even care about seeing him with Neymar and Mbappe because they’re going to have like 7 interesting games this year at most, depending on how far they goin the UCL.

boy is ESPN pissed. I don't think PSG has fewer interesting games than Barcelona really. They didn't even win the league last year. Plus they'll have lots of chances for beautiful goals.

La Liga is a much better league than Ligue 1 so they’d at least have a couple games each against the two Madrid teams. I suppose by interesting I mean competitive as well. I know PSG won’t win every league game this year but you know what I mean. They’re going to steamroll the league.

I was hoping he’d go to England at some point just to see how he would do there. This just seems like he’s going for the paycheck, to coast through most of the season and to pad his stats against much weaker competition. I know if he went to City they’d win the league again and at least one cup competition. But it would have been fun to see him in the Premier League.

PSG did not win Ligue 1 last year . . . Premier league would be an awful destination for Messi. Wrong style, too physical. I don't think there were too many options out there realistically. He wants to win the champions league.

With his salary demands it was basically City or PSG. Just would have been more interesting going to City.

I know they didn’t win the league last year but they also got less than a full seasons worth of starts combined out of Mbappe and Neymar (35 total) and only lost the league by a point. Currently -800 to win the title.

Does the US still have to qualify for the 2026 World Cup since there's not just one host country that gets an automatic bid?

It hasn’t been decided yet. Since the plan is for it to expand to 48 teams with the 2026 tournament, the expectation is all 3 hosts will automatically qualify.

#10 in the FIFA rankings. Top of qualifying could get us into pot A. That would be huge.

Ranked ahead of Germany, never thought I'd see the day.

Figure the USMNT would have to climb to 7th or higher to be in pot A (because Qatar), so they'd need to pass Mexico and at least 2 other UEFA teams. Portugal seems the most likely candidate, but then they'd need to pass one of Belgium, England, France, Spain, or Italy (or Brazil or Argentina).
