Completely random but fun fact: The Miami/Florida Marlins will be playing their 25th season in 2018. In those 25 years, they have never spent a single day in first place during the months of July, August, September or October. The latest they’ve ever been at least tied for first is June 30th back in 2004. In the 2 years they won the World Series, they were never in 1st place later than April 11th.

Well, that's why we need to horsefeathers over Wild Card teams as much as possible.

Where in the wild, wild, wild, world of sports did you find that stat?

Puig’s agency fired him over “behavior issues” and the Dodgers seem to know about whatever it was and aren’t taking any action. That seems odd.

As the time for pitchers and catchers to report draws closer, it’s looking more and more likely that unsigned free agents will host a spring training camp of their own.

With many top players still on the market and camps set to open next week, there had already been a few reports that a free-agents-only spring training might happen. The most comprehensive one yet came tonight from Tim Brown at Yahoo. The union is looking at potential spaces in Florida and Arizona and talking to coaches and other personnel, the report states.

Odds that Jake is the one that says he'd rather stay home?

I bet all the decent FA are staying home. This is probably for fringe guys. This is all so dumb. Martinez has 5/125 on the table and Darvish has multiple 5 year, 9 figure deals and is holding up the whole pitching market. I have a real hard time feeling bad for the players or taking their side here.

His heart's just not into it without his little seal friend.

Yu is going to announce that he is signing with the Cubs and then he'll show up at the free agent camp and say "Y'all thought this show was over, horsefeathers!?"

Actually, Jed will say that.

Not a good day for Heyman. He got called our for reporting the D'backs had a similar offer to the Red Sox 5/125 offer for Martinez by being told it's not true and just Boras using the media to spread rumors. Then he had an article (since taken down) saying he talked to a friend of Donaldson who told him he's looking for a monster deal then Donaldson himself called him out on twitter and said Heyman doesn't know and hasn't talked to any of his friends and he hasn't discussed what he's looking to get with anybody. Then Heyman came back and said it's his belief or something he'd be aiming high and he didn't mean to imply Donaldson has made big demands when that's exactly what the article stated. What a bum.

starlin looks amped (and a little bloated?)

That is not a good look. I feel bad for him, but then again some team would've traded for him if he was a better player. He's just not that valuable anymore.

Remember when he was supposed to be a comparable or perhaps better value than Bryce Harper?

I do not recall him ever being more valuable than B. Harper? When was that?

S. Castro was pretty valuable after his 2011-12 seasons, and then had a bad year in 2013. He bounced back in 2014, but missed some time due to injuries. Then it was pretty much downhill from there...

I don't specifically recall the Harper comparison, but I believe it happened. Folks here were (understandably) really high on Castro and made a lot of optimistic predictions that he did not fulfill. One I recall is that Castro was "guaranteed" to be the next Jeter. Something along those lines.

There was at least one person saying there were only 3-5 players in baseball for whom they'd trade Starlin (or something along those lines). It got a little crazy.
