Yup. IIRC all parties involved decided it wouldn't work at all if they went that direction and changed it to her continuing to be a villain.

That ending makes a lot more sense though. If she was really trying to lose why not trade Vaughn, Dorn etal. for prospects that would be ready in a couple years after they had moved the team? Plus, once they started winning enough games to get into contention that would have already voided the clause about moving the team for falling below X attendance level.

I believe the clause required something like a [expletive] ton of sellouts down the stretch.

Huh?

It was an escape clause in the event of absurdly poor attendance, wasn't it?

Holy horsefeathers, A-Rod is likely going to pass Ruth's HR total this year. I didn't realize he was that close...it's going to be fun watching the Yankees tie themselves up in knots over it.

Speaking of A-Rod...

Alex Rodriguez plans to retire after his contract with the New York Yankees ends following the 2017 season, the designated hitter told ESPN on Wednesday.

"I won't play after next year," Rodriguez said. "I've really enjoyed my time. For me, it is time for me to go home and be Dad."

There aren't very many announcers that I like but he was one of them. He probably said a lot of meatbally things back in the Game of the Week days but I was a kid and didn't care.

I can't wait to see him backtrack if he averages like 28 HRs the next 2 years and is less than 20 away from Bonds.

But would anyone sign him?

By then there's a good chance both leagues will have the DH. That would open more possibilities. Maybe Seattle would bring him back ala the Cubs bringing back Maddux to win his 300th game.

You have to subtract logic and reason when it comes to this type of thing. Bonds was still a productive player after 2007 and nobody wanted to touch him; A-Rod isn't that far off in terms of meatball-rousing unlikability and being seen by many as a "face of steroids/cheating."

You seem a lot more optimistic than me on the NL dh.

Miami maybe? Sure' he'd have to play 1B but it might be worth it to them for the attendance bump and to have the HR record broken by a Marlin. And, you know, hometown kid.

Holy hell, Bonds had a .480 OBP and an OPS north of 1.000 in his final season. I can't believe there wasn't one GM/owner who was willing to tell Selig to go screw and sign what was still the best left-handed hitter in the game.

Completely random rant but have you ever noticed that whenever there's a discussion on the internet about the Cubs championship drought, there will always be a Red Sox fan that chimes in to remind everyone that they were once cursed too. It's almost like they want that as part of their identity and can't stand that someone else has a more futile run than they have.

Quite the opposite, actually. During their drought, they were empathetic towards us, but as soon as they won, Sox fans turned into smug turds overnight
