War2D2: Eric! Did you get eyes on Wiggins at all when you were scoping the Cubs in Scottsdale? Has his command/control gotten any better? Also the requisite “when’s the Cubs list hitting” weekly question, sorry to be a pest. Thanks!

Eric A Longenhagen: He was pretty wild in my lone Spring look. James and I are co-bylining Cubs. I’d expect that toward the end of April.

Guest: Who would you say are the most talented teams in milb this yesr

Eric A Longenhagen: Cubs A ball, Pirates High-A, Guardians A, Rockies A….those are off the top, I’m sure I’m missing an Orioles and Rays affiliate that’s loaded.

J: Any updated thoughts on Pedro Ramirez? He had a torrid spring and has carried that over to AAA. The underlying numbers look quite solid too. Most relevantly, the lack of power mentioned in his most recent writeup seems to have improved drastically.

Eric A Longenhagen: Nice part time 2B/3B, should play pretty consistently due to the switch-hitting, barely a platoon split. Body does look a little different, leaner and meaner than before. Still don’t think the overt physical tools to be an everyday player are there. 45 type, good player

Kate: Have you gotten any looks at Josiah Hartshorn yet? Is he a possible dude? Big bonus and a good start so far in a small sample.

Eric A Longenhagen: Yeah, it’s going to be interesting to see how his body develops over time. It’s already a good bit different than when he was in high school. He’s a good hitter, he has real physicality, I was essentially primed for him to have a good spring and hot start by Sahadev and AZ Phil, and when I started seeing Cubs the last two weeks of ST he was indeed good. Shot to be this year’s Edward Florentino and reinforce so much confidence in the bat that we don’t care it’s 1B

lol - was just coming to post this after my friend resd Longenhagen’s chat.

What a tremendous outcome that would be.

All Power to the People except Westerners lol: Worst prospect echo chamber in the MLB fandom? The Cubs one is f’n weird man, sameish guys talking the sameish guys

Brendan Gawlowski: No idea. Tend to think the same dynamics exist everywhere, just with larger and smaller fanbases.

lol never change Tom

Love what Ramirez is doing. but saying he has 65-70 grade power is pretty silly.  Like yeah it's a .600+ SLG and a .300+ ISO but we're still firmly in SSS and it's an insanely hitter friendly league.  The top end exit velo's are firmly average.

And that's okay!  Great contact, good patience, and average power is a hell of a combo.

If he keeps hitting they will find a spot for him. He can always move to the outfield, corner. My guess is one of the corner spots will be filled with a guy currently in the minors, or Shaw.

Oh, I agree but it’s nice to get over-the-top, undeserved prospect love like the Padres and Dodgers do.

Oh for sure I know you're jusy passing it along

Yeah the Dodgers are really instructive.  They play moon baseball in the lower minors and so their youngest hitters are constantly getting glazed before reality starts to hit at AA.  Glad to finally get some of that.

Surprised me to. see Ramirez went from 165 to 200 pounds this offseason ... power surge could be real.

i'm guessing they didn't update his weight since he signed or something. hard to believe he gained 35 pounds in 5 months

Or maybe they had him enroll as a freshman in a Midwest college. That’ll do it too.

Yeah. Guessing they had his weight from when he signed at age 16 and finally got an updated weight this offseason after he got added to the 40-man.
