I either forgot or didn't realize Price and Ortiz are enemies. He wants to hit and he wants to have fun. Between those things, I'm going to laugh my ass off when Boston offers that and then he still comes to the NL.

But Price, 30, values comfort even more than most players. He had that in Tampa Bay. He eventually found it in Detroit.

I know what it's supposed to mean but laughed anyway.

I wonder who next week's Price favorite will be?

“Would I ever leave this company? Look, I’m all about loyalty. In fact, I feel like part of what I’m being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly… I’m going wherever they value loyalty the most.”

as for the big papi thing, he'd only have to deal with him for a year, so, meh.

Honestly, how many Price suitors are even realistic at this point. STL needs to address their offense and there's no way they can grab Chris Davis or Heyward if they grabbed Price. Even with Lynn's TJS and Lackey leaving they're still super deep. Wainwright,Wacha,Martinez,Garcia,Gonzales,Lyons and Cooney. Dodger's have been heavily rumored to be trying to shed payroll to get down closer to 200M which many believe leaves them out of Greinke and therefore Price territory. Thanks to the luxury tax, the Yankees would have to pay 45M a year to have David Price pitch and there's no way it's going to happen. I kind of get the impression the Red Sox are bidding against themselves right now.

There's no way the Dodgers are dropping from 300 to 200 in one off season. I can see them dropping down gradually, getting there once a few of Crawford/Ethier/Gonzalez start to fall off the books. That said, if I were guessing today, I'd have Price and Cueto in Boston, Greinke in SF, Zimmermann in LA and us with Shark, one of Gordon or Heyward, and a Soler trade that nets us a controlled arm.

I didn't mean to imply they'd get to 200 this offseason, but the rumor was they wanted to be closer to 200 than 300.

Why would Greinke go to SF?

They're a contender with money to spend, they're in the NL(which is a preference) and they're even in the west(which also seems to be a preference for him).

It's a little silly, but part of me is real bummed that it's looking less and less likely the Cubs nab Price.

It's easy to do. I have two competing sides in me. There's the intelligent baseball mind that realizes long term pitcher deals are bad news bears, that we already have Lester and Arrieta (it's a matter of when not if, he gets extended imo) who will be on long term, big money deals into their 30's and he's a bad buy, likely. But then there's the fan and he's all like "But duuuude. David Price! Everyone and like everyone will be talkin' bout us! David Price duuude!".

I won't lie, the fan in me is bit bummed he wont likely see Price as a Cub, but I know it's likely the right move if we add younger controllable arms

Yep. As soon as the local media guys started spinning the "it's better to spend on two mid-level pitchers than a guy like Price" story, you knew it wasn't going to happen.

holy [expletive]. it hasn't even not happened yet. FFS.

like three days ago people thought he might be going back to toronto. now he pretty much 100% isn't. these things go like this every offseason. he hasn't signed anywhere and the cubs are still one of the main teams talked about with him.

I'm betting Price ends up in SF and Greinke ends up in Boston.

i hope he hates stl, la, and sf

Well it at least definitely eliminates st louis, and if it doesnt then I don't want him anyways.

I heard today that the Dodgers payroll and luxury tax exceeded $340M this year and they're committed to bringing that total down to the $225M range. Even though they haven't won a WS in 25+ years a Price contract might not work out under those projections. Price is too rich for the Cardinals. We already have a big contract with Lester and once the Price talks go beyond 5 years and about $30M, I think I'd push back from the table.

Those reports about the Dodgers have been out for a while and have been countered by other reports that they aren't true, so who knows.

Also, Price is not too rich for the Cardinals. They have big shiny new TV money coming.

EDIT: An opt out after 3 years, interesting.

That doesn't even seem like an overbid. So much for those reports.

Well, I didn't think we'd go to that level on him. Was kind of hoping beyond hope he'd take a bit less from us. But that's a bunch of money. He's got an opt out after 3 years too.

At least it's time for some action now.

No deferments or anything. His 217 beats Scherzer's actual contract value of 191ish by quite a bit and even takes down Kershaw's 215. I kind of doubt anyone else was heading into that realm on him honestly, even if it was predicted he'd get that.
