Bryant gotta get it going. 0-7, 3 K, 1 BB (doubled off first), 2 GIDP, 10 outs made in 8 PA

Can't wait until he turns it around tomorrow.

Rizzo and Starlin are both equally bad at the plate. Can't win with them doing nothing, just not going to happen.

we have good hitters up and down the lineup (mostly). we can win with any one or two guys doing nothing. we'd rather not, but we can.

They should bench them all, right?

I know the TBS pitch tracks was bad, but Cuzzi was pretty one-sides tonight. I really would be curious to see what happens if somebody else is behind the plate tonight. He affected so many plate appearances drastically.

Per Brooks Baseball, Cards pitchers got 12 called strikes out of the zone, the Cubs 6. For pitches that were off the plate(and didn't miss high/low), the Cards got 9 and the Cubs 3.

The Cardinals also might have swung at more pitches out of the zone to protect. The Cubs stared at a ton that they could have easily swung at. The zone was bad the entire game for both teams.

Yeah I'm gonna put the onus on you to show the Cards just fouled off more pitches in that situation. It isn't the reason they lost, but the zone was super frustrating for a team that wants to work counts. Rosenthal alone got 4 called strikes off the outside edge.

i did too. i'm talking about all the histrionics about maddon getting outmanaged and matheny pushing all the right buttons like you're one of those meatball tv announcers, like it was some genius premonition he had to put in tommy pham.

didn't say I wanted maddon fired. didn't say that matheny was a genius. no histrionics.

you don't agree that matheny had a better game than maddon?

I believe your exact words were "matheny running circles around maddon". Maybe you see that was hyperbole now (going to "had a better game"), but what you said was wrong. Matheny had a pitcher the Cubs couldn't hit.

I thought the zone in the Blue Jays/Rangers game was a lot worse than this zone. It sucks but both were called consistently. Just need better home plate umps.

Well Bryant is only doing bad because for some strange reason he turns into a below average player on the road. Not sure what Rizzos excuse is. He was a near 1.000 OPS player in the first half and .830 OPS player in the second half.

Here you go David.

CUBS are 1-2 with Phil Cuzzi behind home plate...........

Go CUBS !!

LOL of course he did the Hamels no hitter. 1 run in 38 innings with 4 different teams.

Thank goodness for Blackhawks, beer, and tomorrow.

Well they're facing the top two pitchers on the top two teams in MLB, and it's a sample size of like 8 PA, so...

Schwarber has to stay in the lineup tomorrow, right?

Definitely. Given Garcia's splits, I bet La Stella starts as well over Coghlan (who can't hit lefties no matter what), Soler, and Jackson.

Posted
Yeah, I think you have to play Schwarber. He has 4 of the 10 hits in the 2 playoff games. But I do think you have to get either Soler or Baez in there.

Need new thread so we can talk about how we're going to bounce back and light up Garcia tomorrow.

frustrating game to watch, but oh well #wearegood. I have faith Joe and these guys can bounce back from this type of game.

If that Dexter ball goes out, i would have personally built a statue of him for Wrigleyville : (

and the moves he made worked better than the ones maddon made (or didn't make). don't get why this is such a controversial position to take.

if you'd rather have me say "maddon sucked tonight" and leave matheny out of it, that's fine. obviously lackey, the cubs hitters and an embarrassingly bad home plate umpire were the reasons the cubs lost, but maddon was bad.

Just checking in for the first time since this afternoon so I'm sure it was discussed somewhere in the thread. Why the [expletive] did Matheney pull Lackey after 86 pitches?

Basing the quality of the decision making solely on outcomes defeats the purpose of evaluating decision making.

1 man invests $100 in treasuries. 1 man invests $100 in lottery tickets. The first man's decision making is likely better irrespective of whether the second man wins the lottery.
